Alarm horn is probably knackered or become disconnected. I think its positioned inside front drivers side wheel arch.

Easy to replace just got to drill ribits out first and get some short bolts to replace em with.

Drivers front wheel off
Arch lining off
Left hand upper side

Plug and play
Theres many revisions of the alarm siren box

Chucked mine at all as it kept going off

Did the battery get disconnected any time recently? I've seen that taking the battery off can change a setting which puts the alarm in silent mode.

Also interested to learn how to recode a silent alarm?

Mine makes a very soft beep when locking/unlocking but completely silent when alarm goes off (just hazards flash with no sound)

Is there anyway to test the alarm with VCDS?
