Title: Recent films you have watched
Post by: Matto on March 04, 2015, 03:26:35 pm
Just wondering what you have watched recently as I'm in need of some new films to watch when work is quiet. If you have any recommendations with a short opinion and rating that would be great.

Birdman 4/10. Watched an hour but turned it off wasn't my cup of tea and got bored of it. I liked how it was filmed though as one continuous shot.

I did the same with Birdman, but recent ones I have enjoyed would be ,Whiplash, Theory of Everything, Fury, Foxcatcher,Gone Girl , should keep you going for a few nights.
Heading to Australia now, dare say I will have seen what ever movies they are showing on the flight :-(

It's about a cowboy who contracts aids in 70's and goes to Mexico to buy and sell drugs to treat it. Very good and I think Matthew mcconaughey won Oscar for it.

Interstellar: A team of explorers travel through a wormhole in an attempt to ensure humanity's survival.

Both were excellent.

I watched Bad Neighbours with Seth Rogan last weekend and thought it was hilarious.

Also watched Filth recently which I thought was great but not for the easily offended  :popcornsoda:

Thought DCB was fantastic , MM became my favourite actor after this and True Detective

Watched 'Lucy' the other weekend. It lists as quite a short film (1h 30'ish), but felt longer in a good way.
Scarlett Johansson is the main character - it's a film a bit like Limitless. Went a bit weird at the end, but enjoyed it!

I was pleasantly surprised by Chappie Saturday night. Dont get me wrong it didnt have a patch on Short Circuit but did throw a good dollop of comedy into the mix.

I saw Fury a few weeks ago, agree with the comments above. Well worth a watch.

American Sniper, was really impressed with that.

The Judge, that one surprised me, I wasn't expecting much but the acting was absolutely spot on, highly recommended.

The Imitation Game, again, very good acting.

Birdman I wanted to like but just didn't.

And lastly Left Behind. Nicolas Cage stole 2 valuable hours of my life. It was truly dire. 0/10

I watched Godfather a couple of days ago for the 1st time. I've had the BD box set for a couple of years and have only just managed to find the time to watch it.

Everyone raves about it.

It was average at best. Good for its age but I've seen better films.

Saw John Wick a couple of weeks back. Silly, unbelievable, but good fun. Too many bits where the bad guy has every opportunity to finish him off, but leaves the room and expects his evil henchman to do the deed...

Saw The imitation Game the other day. The BEST film I have seen in a long time. The main character is a modern day hero. His brilliance ended the Second World War about two years early due to cracking the Nazi Enigma machine code.

Southpaw... brilliant film

We watched Southpaw too..my other half cried "cause she's a soppy sentimental type" and thought it was great.
But I must admit I wasn't that fussed on the film.
Couldn't help the feel that almost every scene was ripped straight out of the Rocky Series of films.
Was expecting James Brown and Carl Weathers to appear at one stage.
I don't think it's a Rocky 'reboot' intentionally ??
Just my thoughts.

But over all I did enjoy it!!

Have you seen the trailor for 'Creed' ?

Loved Southpaw! I thought it tilted its cap towards the rocky saga in a good way. Really looking forward to Creed too! Next up will be Straight Outta Compton.

Legend.

Definitely a must watch! Tom Hardy is just insanely good, after about 10 minutes of watching it, I completely forgot that it was the same person acting!  The only bad point was that his Ronnie Kray voice did sound very similar to Bane and it got a bit distracting.

but an easy 9/10 if not 10/10

Went to watch Everest on Friday. I didn't know anything behind the story to it beforehand but really enjoyed it. A bit of a tear jerker and has definitely made me realise I am not made of the right stuff to even want to give it ago even though I like a good walk in the mountains.

A solid 8.5 from me.

Straight outta Compton was alright I wouldn't say it was amazing, I think for me as I like that era of hip hop (not really nwa tho) that the film is timed around I know what's what and that film is I'd say around 25% actual facts the rest is made up crap. Ok it's a film but when it's kind of like a autobiography I'd want more truth in it.

Taken 3. Title made no sense, as no one got took, but I thought it was better than number 2. Also the new Avengers one. Dunno why I bother, they're all the same!

Avengers-Age of Ultron.....same old recipe, but entertaining enough.
Burying the ex - Decent offbeat twist on a zombie romcom.
Fantastic four - avoid alert, original was much better and that wasn't brilliant.

Not yet but it's on my list, I go to cinema every week so here's by two pence worth of films I have seen recently

Triple 9 - ok I guess but only a 6 out of 10
Zoolander - so crap it was funny
London has fallen - not bad if you like lots of guns and explosions
The witch - awful, so disappointed
Zootopia - great, me and the kids really enjoyed it
10 Cloverfield Lane - not bad, slow start and weird ending but middle was great
Eddie the eagle - a lot better than I expected, was really funny although disappointed to discover most of the story was fabricated

Deadpool - quality
Legend - quality
