Title: Golf R Estate
Post by: berg on March 05, 2015, 04:40:44 pm
Anyone seen a release date yet?

Or seen any lease deals?

Was looking at getting an S4 avant but spending the money I had saved on new house so might look at a 2 yr lease for one of these instead and if they are great will then buy a used one when lease is up and mod the fook out of it

I have been waiting on order books opening since it was announced, getting a bit bored of waiting now.
VW just keep saying 'spring'.

I am just going to buy one and mod it anyway  :innocent:

yeah am not sure could stomach the depreciation on one from new, but i suppose if they offered say 10% off list and decent finance could be tempted - keep in touch by PM chap please  :drinking:

My next car will be a five year one for me, judging how I specced an R hatchback, it won't be cheap for sure.

Wondering if VW will put some good deals up to get orders in, would be good. It isn't going to fit everyones requirements so I think they'll have some sweeteners.

I think it was shown at Geneva Motor Show yesterday so imagine order books will open sometime in the near future. I am waiting to have a look at the GTD Wagon which you can already configure on VW.de.

Time is dragging though, money burning a hole in my pocket and a crappy mk4 in the interim.

Even the Leon ST that was announced afterwards os going to be available sooner

I've just spoken to my VW man and he said the order books open at the end of March.
I've just told him to order one for demo with DSG, Dyna-Audio, winter pack and rear view camera!
Then after 3 months I can snap it up cheap.  :rolleye:

I'll just lurk in the background and wait for the flood of leased Golf R's to hit the classifieds and drive prices down. Looks like a damn good used hot hatch when the price drops a bit. Plus it gives me long enough to enjoy a modified mk5 GTI that I dreamed off since 16 years old.

You can configure it on the website, but missing DSG option etc. i told them about it and passed onto webteam

it's the usual VW shambles when it comes to new models/info!

The estate price list PDF brochure shows the R and GTD with the R being DSG only...

Yeh it is typical. The whole R estate build up has been poor.

I never thought it came in manual, should hope not with the pricing as it is

Now imagine it with decent brakes, Revo stage 1, BCS system, lowered (H&R -30mm VWR lowering springs)!!!

And that is how I get to sleep at night!!!  :signLOL:

Woeful and fair play to Alex at AKS for fighting my corner on these and agreeing, they just ruined the car, the VWRs are way better

How were they woeful though? Just curious
Title: Re: Golf R Estate
Post by: wigit on May 06, 2015, 03:24:11 pm
They ruined the ride quality, spring rates for me just did not suit the damping (the were meant to work with DCC) and i think they dropped the car 5mm too much and just ran out of side to side articulation and front to back when coming into corners

Anything other than a smooth road forget it, made the car twitchy and nervous and unpredictable, completely ruined the fluidity of the stock set up, the worst modification I have ever done to a car, you had to look out for manhole covers and bumps to avoid.

Thread Resurrection..

Just to comment on my first ever sighting of R Estate today. Lapis blue.

Looked rather bloody good.
Had to give my Ed30 (Stg2+) some beans (not all) to keep up with it.
It made some lovely noises when he was booting it..sat 30ft behind it.

It''s got me pondering..for sure.

Seen a fair few now and Yeap they look great, some good deals around (for a £34k car)......PCP from £212 a month with £1900 deposite for 24 months, as with all these that's for 5k miles and poverty spec (DSG). Extra 5k a year is only another £60 so not bad.

See one the other day in blue, been looking at them and do look good in the flesh except for the standard rear lights, would've been a lot better with some led's

@berg (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=2152)  Got one yet Andy?!  :popcornsoda:

I saw three or four at the Nurb last weekend, didn't see them lapping but they were dotting around. Mostly candy white but Lapiz blue makes it look huge, more like a Passat R from a distance!

I think they're particularly cool with the dog sitters boot :pomppomp:

I like that. Stands out from the usual hatches. I've always had a thing for Avant/Sportback Audis, so this is right up my street.

There is an ex demo one at Fakenham Vw (Cookes) in white , leather seats etc. Saw it when we bought a Polo yesterday , if we hadn't just bought a New static Caravan we may have come away with that too ! Thinks it was £31995 , showed a discount from new of nearly £8k

Sorry guys, Hate them with a passion. Golf Estates have never looked any good IMO.

The 7R hatch is growing on me very slowly but only in the right colour with the Pretorias and Leather, The Cloth interior is awful.

Can imagine they are quite a capable car though.

I think only the mk7 R estate looks good. All the rest are terrible, I agree!

Oh and they are ridiculously capable. Stage 2 cars with DSG are truly into supercar numbers.

If I was being honest I think they should've had LED rear lights as the standard ones don't do it justice apart from that I'd have one
