Title: Price Guidance on MK5 GTI
Post by: oHUTCHYo on March 07, 2015, 03:53:59 pm
Hi Guys,

Decided I'm going to lower my budget and instead of the ED30, get a more civilised GTI with the leather seats I like so much.

Main criteria is;

Colour, in order of preference; Steel Grey, Silver, Black or Red
DSG or manual
Leather
Less than 80K miles

On that sole basis, prices seem to be all over, especially the greedy traders. What is a realistic budget to allocate?

If an want to put a wanted post up, does it go in cars for sale or MK5 parts wanted section?

6-7k imo for an 80k car and I would want a late one with all the toys for that.

I wouldn't look at the for sale section on this site for guidance. Alot are overpriced imo.

I'll be pitching my Ed30 at around 9k, although it has a nearly new Helix clutch and a few other mods.

Around 7-8k will get you a well cared for GTI with the spec you want

Hi there
Just as a possible bit of help i bought mine in August last year (7 months ago)

She is a stunning
57 plate 3 door in Black
68,000 miles (now on 71,000)
1 owner from new
Completely standard/original
Full dealer history
Full Mot plus bit of Tax
Leather
Sat nav
Zenons
Parking sensors
Cruise control
iPod dock in armrest
18" polished monza's in lovely condition
New Michelin ps3 tyres fitted
Recent brakes all round etc etc

Paid £7,300 for her, guy had it up for 8k but was collecting his new Golf R that week so just made him a cash offer on the spot of £7,200 and he begrudgingly agreed to £7,300   :jumpmove:

Felt a little sluggish at first but diagnosed as torn Diverter valve (£40) and goes like a stabbed rat again now

As said already deffinately go for a late fully loaded model as its the better later engine and obviously a newer car

Around 7k should get you a properly sorted 2007/2008 Gti if you avoid garages and aim for private sellers

Was considering selling mine on but im undecided again now
 :happy2:

I'm struggling to find anything half decent at the moment. I've either pitched my budget of 7.5k too low or they are over priced I don't know!

I feel the same. Paying any more for a standard GTI just seems wrong, I mean really it's 2 generations old now.

You don't seem to be able to pick up a standard gti on decent age and mileage for less than 8k which seems steep to me
