Title: Exhaust Tips
Post by: jayha11 on March 08, 2015, 02:50:11 pm
I have been searching around to see if it is possible to change the exhaust tips on the GTI back box as I do not really want an uprated system such as a Milltek. Does anybody have any information on if this is feasible?

Thanks
Jay

+1 the previous owner of my car kept it all mint except the exhaust tips. They look like they have never been cleaned. Ive tried to polish mine up but the ends are just rotted through! An easy replacement would be ideal.

Would a company like powerflow be able to replace , chop the tips and weld over some new ones.

My exhausts  on my GTI were quite nasty. Got myself some 0000 superfine steel wool and got a tube of autosol. Used engine cleaner first then attacked the tips for about 20 minutes.

They look much better , not perfect but getting there. Round two when I get a chance.

Ive fitted audi B8 exhaust tips which go straight over orginal gti ones without removing old ones.

I bought a couple of ss pipes (150 x 50 x 70mm) off ebay and painted them with high temp paint  Still nice and black after 2 weeks   Used http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Equal-Diameter-Exhaust-Clamp-Connector-Sleeve-55mm-56mm-57mm-58mm-59mm-60mm-/361154787380?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item541680b834

So get the tips that fit over the originals and use the clamps in the link to fit them? seems like a sensible option. Thank you!! :happy2:

Can confirm that part number 8K0 253 825 D just slips over the original tips.

Got an eBay bargain for 25 quid and fitted today. Result.

Would it not have been easier to just get some scotchbrite pads and some good metal polish and clean up the standard ones? when I bought my car the exhaust tips were black asthough they had never been cleaned since new but with a bit of elbow grease they have scrubbed up and look brand new now, nice and shiny.
Title: Re: Exhaust Tips

I had done that. Autosol metal polish and wire wool, elbow grease etc etc. Trouble is the tips had corroded and had marks that I was unable to shift. The originals are welded on so replacing is not a simple swap job.

These replacement tips, do they slot over the original tips fitted to the GTI or do you have to remove those first?

Anybody taken pictures of the new tips fitted?

Thanks

Can anyone confirm what diameter is required to slot over the original GTI tips? I have been browsing ebay and found different diameters ranging between 60-75mm

Thanks
