Title: Latest diagnosis kit
Post by: daddykool on March 08, 2015, 07:38:50 pm
Hi! guys .
Have not used Vag Com or anything before, had gti for 8 years, but now my son has 2013 Ibiza fr 2000 diesel .
So he is talking about buying a diagnostic cable for about £15  , Even I know this will be pretty crap!
How much does a good kit cost and what exactly do I need to order ,i know it should be Ross Tech.
Any advice would be welcome !

Same for me (though I managed to save a few quid by buying a used one from a forum member)

I thought I'd use it for a few jobs then sell it on, but it's been invaluable!

They may seem expensive to buy but a) They are really, really handy and save you a lot of time and money.

                                                       b) You get excellent back-up from Ross-Tech.

                                                       c) They work.

                                                       d) When you decide to sell it you will get most of your money back.

What's the average price for a decent piece of kit?

At the end of the day, if you use it more then 4 time to help fix your car, it's payed for itself, it a professional peace of kit, and like most people have said, when you come to sell, your get most of your money back. All win.

Is the piece of kit mentioned earlier in the thread the best one to go for, or are their other options also?

+1 for VAGCOM (that one at the beginning of the thread). Expensive, but they pay for themselves in no time. You'll get the majority of your money back if you come to sell it, and you know it's going to work (unlike the dodgy copies).

The cable we are talking about is the official licensed version - costs around £270 from offical UK distributers.

I got mine from Marshalls Industrial

Cheap ones on e-bay may be illegal copies

Shouldn't matter if you have a licensed and paid for version - would you honestly plug an out of date pirated diagnostic computer into your 9k+ motor??

As per Andy has written, you will definitely get your money back when or if you decide to sell. Used ones on ebay are selling around the £250 mark.
Hence i shall also be buying one from Gendon fairly soon

Yup, no point buying a dodgy one IMO. If you're planning on keeping the car for a while, just fork out the money and sell the cable when you sell the car.
