Since i have owned my 57plate GTI with DSG for a few months i have generally been happy with it but does have a few quirks that not sure warrant VW doing a full diagnostics on it. The car has full history and recently had a DSG service (2nd one in its life ) at VW and do plan on getting a stage 1 map with DSG done. 57k miles on clock
1) The issues i have is living in a hilly area the car while driving is more likely to pull off in 2nd so feels so takeoff is slow sometimes. Ocasionally it feels like pulling off in 3rd in a manual.
2) Sometimes gear changes from 1st to 2nd if i am giving it the beans are not smooth.
3) Small amount of kangarooing in 2nd in traffic after a while of drving(depends on throttle position or colour of the moon) .
The car had a DSG reset done via VCDS and it has cleaned up some of the gear changes.
Would a DSG remap help with things like clutch biting point smoother gear changes and generally drivability. Did not want to phone up the bigs boys and waste their time if it can be answered here. The gearbox is free of any codes.

I'm no DSG expert as I've not had mine long, but after talking to a lot of people it seems these are common things with DSG. It's never going to give you a perfect gear change in every situation, I find myself manually knocking it down a gear when I come out of slow corners as it seems to hold 3rd gear for to long, or if i'm approaching a roundabout. It also does like to stay in 2nd at a junction if you haven't been stopped for to long. I find it likes 6th gear a lot as well :) Between 1st and 2nd when you boot it on mines not smooth...but I wouldn't say it's a to harsh either.... "firm" is probably a better description, I tend to be smoother on the throttle until it's in 2nd, unless of course I'm racing a Corsa or Saxo of the lights :)
I may be wrong, but mine sounds similar to yours, and it's no different now as it was before it's last service.

Mine too sounds exactly the same, what irritates me about it is going round tight corners where it holds second but effectively depresses the clutch and then when you go to accelerate away you get a tug when it engages again! I too am interested in getting the box remapped, but I am hoping that my new exhaust will give me some nice dsg farts, and I wouldn't want to get the box done if it would take it away!

Thanks guys you have reassured me about box, But if anyone reading has had their DSG mapped does it smooth out the quirks described above.

Just to add to this....
I currently have a 2015 DSG Golf SV as my GTI is having some work done. It also holds 2nd gear on some junctions and on tight slow corners (I only really noticed this afternoon after replying to this post), although being a diesel it seems to cope better with the lower down torque and doesn't feel quite as sluggish.

I've had my dsg eddy stage 2 + at rtech and mines perfect, the only similarity I have too you guys is it stays in 2nd a lot when coming to a halt and pulls away in 2nd if not stood for long but all changes are smooth and perfect. Mines only on 48k but being a tech I've changed the filter and oil 3 times already to keep it spot on and I've only owned it 2 years. Hope this helps.

Hi Orc. So would you say ignoring the hike in power has your dsg become better to live with, smoother changes less quirky?

Glad mine is manual - DSG sounds terrible! :signLOL:

It's actually Awesome, I've never been so impressed with an "Auto" :)
It's made driving manuals a chore for me now haha :)
I think you just need to learn how to drive them to get the best out of them.

I usually drive mine in manual mode these days, much better especially with dsg paddle extensions.

The remap on the box has changed it ten fold yeah extremely nice to drive, but I will say it wasn't bad before. Sport box now and launch is just insane!!

Thanks Orc and thanks all for comments.
Have to say overall I'm a convert to DSG having driven Manuals for long time. Guess buying second hand always leaves you with doubts but does sound like getting the DSG remap done along with the Engine is the way to go.

I have to be honest and say that I am yet to experience driving a DSG equipped car - the mechatronic issues of the earlier cars has always put me off, but the car refusing to engage the gear I wanted ie pulling away in 2nd and not dropping down when asked for an overtake all sound like pretty sizeable issues to me. Espicially on a "Performance" vehicle :driver:
However a mate of mine is looking at purchasing a DSG equipped motor soon so I will finally get to have a go and make a more informed judgement.
:happy2:

Once you've driven one you won't look back!! :happy2:

Agree with above, once driven, I was sold. Can anyone clarify for me if having the dsg remapped removes the farts?
-
Well mine is stage 2+ and the farts are way bigger and better sounds like a race car!! My mate test drove it and came back in giggles
-
Is yours k03? I am going to stage 2 revo, don't have an intercooler or s3 injectors, so they won't upload stage 2+ for me, have you had the box mapped too?

Yes it can quiet them down

Mmmm, didn't want to hear that! Thanks very much for the heads up though
