Title: Had a minor accident
Post by: bushypad on March 12, 2015, 07:30:36 pm
Without going into massive detail although I'm pissed off! I was parked up at the side of the road indicating to pull out and some guy who is miles away decides to speed up as im pulling out and tries to pull up infront of me results in my headlight being pushed into the car at an akward angle and scrapes my front wing.. What im wanting to know for the meantime is i want to push the light back in its still working so glad about that as they are xenons! But would i best be advised to let the garage open up the grill and push it back or can i do it myself? Only reason i ask is i need to pop out to sort a few things out but dont want to drive around especially when the bonnet isn't properly closing either.. I will post a picture up shortly! Any help much appreciated!!

So you were joining the road from a junction - guess your insurance will be taking the hit for both vehicles
What damage did the other car incur?

At-least nobody was hurt any vehicle can be repaired

Take it apart.
The mounting tangs on the headlights are plastic. If they are still intact, try not to break them now.

Good luck with it.

Yeah, most likely the lugs have given way.

There are 3 lugs which are designed to break in the event of an accident, moving the headlamp rather than the headlamp simply breaking.

You can buy lug repair kits from VW directly (£24 for one side - contains all 3 lugs even though you may only need 1!).

You get to the headlamp by removing the front grill and the front bumper. Very easy to do - I've done it and I'm clueless!
