Title: Could this be related...
Post by: suave on March 14, 2015, 07:33:55 pm
My stock DSG GTI appears to need rear wheel bearing(s) - I get the Abs, ESP off and flat tyre lights now and again.
Thing is my DSG has started messing about a bit too - holds in gear like it's in Sport mode when in Drive.
When the 3 dash lights are on it performs normally in Drive - could my need for an ABS ring sensor/wheel bearing be affecting my DSG - does it pick up any readings from the rear wheels?
Has anyone else replaced rear bearings to fix these 3 orange dash lights?
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers

If it was me I would opt for a VCDS scan and see what fault code are up first. :happy2:

However, I wouldn't expect the two faults to be related unless it's a wiring issue somewhere.

The car picks up road speed from the ABS rings, so it wouldn't surprise me if that could potentially cause delayed shifting.   The DSG software is a complex blend of throttle request, road speed, rpm etc.

@suave (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1976)

Did you get this sorted mate? Mine is showing the exact same symptons, three lights on every now and again and DSG revs

Fingers crossed that this is your issue mate. Do you have VCDS?

Pesky, the ABS ring sensor did sort my DSG issue too. It was behaving like yours but went back to normal after the sensor was replaced. Wasn't such a big job either.
Hope you get sorted.

So back from vw audi tec in chelmsford today. Good specialist, reccomend them. They took it for a test drive and scanned it which showed an abs fault on the rear left wheel. They then span the wheel and read live data and the data was going mad. If its the sensor thats faulty, the data tends to stay in one place. If its the abs strip corroded then the data goes mad, which mine did.

Is it possible the rear wheels will affect the speed recorded, thus throwing the dsg? I assumed it was only front.

Error code 00290
Left rear abs wheel speed sensor
Mechanical malfunction
Intermittent

I have the car booked in on monday 19th for wheel bearing replacement and service, although im thinking I might do the wheel bearing myself if its not too challenging. Although im under the impression a whole new hub is needed as the hub has the bearing built in. Vwauditec did all this for free :) good to talk to and know their stuff

Good to hear mate looks like this might be your issue! And IMO I would let them do the wheel bearing and give them the job after they've done all that for free  :happy2:

Yeah I did think that. Although, they are still doing the service, and in the future they will be doing a cam chain replacement. I intend to use them for everything now. The main reason i want to do it myself is that the car is booked in at r-tech for next friday so i thought it should be sorted before then, and they cant do it before then...
In that case get it done! :)
I'm abit biased as I work at a garage and nothing more annoying than when you spend 20-30 mins checking round a car for somebody them they book it in for the week after, you order the parts and book a slot on the ramp for them and they never turn up and you never see them again.

Doesn't sound like your that sort of guy though thankgod ;) what stage you at when you go r tech? Maybe dyno daze next door can sort your wheel bearing before it goes on the rollers?
