I do hydrodipping with my brother as a side after work. I done a fair bit of stuff on his caddy MK1, some small dash stuff for a friend on his Polo 6R and also some stuff for lads on the BMW forum I used to be on.
Am thinking of getting some of my MK5 bits dipped in Carbon Fibre effect, but am unsure on what to start with. I love the Brushed effect dash already so that's out the question.
Have any of you had bits dipped? Carbon Wrapped? Carbon Coated?
Am just having a think on what small bits I can do to make subtle changes.
Here's a few bits from different cars that we have done in the past

Looks good fella. I may be in touch.
Ive had a few bits and pieces dipped in C/F, all in my build thread. Mirror casings, centre console, ashtray surround and lid, gear stick gator surround.
-
Looks quite well actually. I might have to get on with doing mine
-
Looks really good. Is this the same method as c2carbon?
Stevie. :happy2:
-
I think I recognise you from e46zone?
-
Is it expensive?!
-
Saw this on a previous episode of Wheeler Dealers, always interested in how much this kind of thing cost.

I think the C2 carbon is carbon cover. This works as a water transfer and paint

Yeah am on there, sold the 46 this weekend though, going to be gutted I think, was a solid car! But onto the golf now

It can be exspensive , it all depends on the size of the item being dipped and also the pattern going on.
But smaller parts that dont take too long to prep and paint are cheaper.
Let's say the centre console bit around the CD player section and heater dials in the golf to be done in carbon effect, I'd say looking at around £50
-
Think we finally got the carbon colours sorted.
A few bits off a motorbike and some bits from a Mercedes we have been able to get done this week. In lacquer last night and should be flat and polished tonight after work.

I always wanted the honeycomb bits on the front of the car doing gloss black but I inagine this would take a long time to prep.
How would it stand up against stone chips?

Might as well paint them no point in hydrodipping a flat colour really
-
Yeah I guess so was just hoping this would give a better finish with less messing about.

It's only worth hydro dipping something if the part you want doing has a pattern for it. Eh carbon, camo etc
You need to paint all the parts 1st to make the film work, as a base colour of the print. So for what you want, your best just getting them painted mate

Gloss black front grills get ruined so fast. 6 months tops and they look crap .
