I'm sure this has been asked many times before, but what are the options and their respective differences? Do any of them support A2DP? I vaguely remember reading that one or two of the BT units aren't compatible with Sony Ericsson phones when it comes to some of the more advanced features? Can you clear this up Stu or point me in the right direction for specs and information. Ta.

I always found the SE phones to be the better ones, Nokia with Symbian such as N95 were a pain.

The choice of interface may not be yours, the 729B is the one for a MK5 with a red dash insert.

Oli,
Will be interested to hear hoe you get on with your install. Hopefully picking up my ed30 this week and looking to upgrade to the rns510 and bluetooth.  I only have lowline computer and no mfsw so not at all sure how to go about things.  Also looking to add Cruise control, im sure that will be another issue !!!

Cruise shouldn't be an issue.

Lowline is ok if you have RNS510 as that handles the phone functions.

I think i could manage the hardware installation but when it comes to the coding etc, well i think i would be a bit.....no, very lost !
For one i dont have a VAGCOM and two, if i did i wouldnt know where to start with the coding !
Not too sure if my local VW garage would manage to sort out the coding for me ??

The Satio runs S60v5...

And forgive my ignorance - red dash insert?

I though there we're a couple of BT options hardware-wise, the VW Premier kit, Skoda kit and Fiscon (sp.) Kit?

There is animal but Stu is just pointing out that the skoda route for the red dot matrix (highline) is the 729B version of the skoda module.

The VW premium only support Rsap phones and the Satio is not one of them cos ive tested it already it does find the phone but it just says Phone is not compatible,  The newer nokia's work fine and have full functionality.

The fiscon is more or less same has the Skoda unit in that its a UHV and it will take more or less all models of phone with bluetooth.

I have already had cruise installed, which was relatively simple.  I am ordering the Fiscon bluetooth and MDI cable tomorrow, for when the set arrives by the end of the week, so I can chuck it all in together.

Looks like the Ed30 is a keeper!

Thanks for that Darren, I thought there were some compatibility issues. Seems odd that the s60v5 on the Satio was licensed from Nokia by SE and yet, still doesnt work with RSAP.

Do they all support A2DP? That's all I'm really bothered about as I don't use my phone whilst driving and don't plan to start doing so, I just want to be able to access the music on my phone wirelessly.

No I think the new 730B version of the vw premium also the fiscon and poss the newer skoda versions support A2DP audio. But it also depends on the phone I think aswell?

I think I paid about £40 for the stalk, and then one of my mechanics did the rest.

Update - I've ordered the fiscon and the glovebox mdi, so should be all in by Friday.

Another quick question.

My units part number is;

1TO 035 680 B

I presume this is a B version and will have the latest software?

Cheers

It is indeed a  version, as to what sw, you need to delve deep into the menu's on the set................

A geek will be along shortly to let you know how to do that!

I'm not falling for that one QD.  :P

To find the SW version open the car, turn the unit on and press and hold the setup button for quite a while, 60 secs I think.

If that doesnt work, which if its 100% original it shouldnt (because its a version B). Then you'll need VAGCOM to change a setting to allow the setup menu to come up. I had to do this on mine. Simply just changing one of the bits from "0" to "1" or vice-versa etc on the nav controller.

EDIT: Just found it....

Quote
Using Vagcom/VCDS open Channel 37 – Navigation, go into adaption and change channel 50 to 1 (will be 0).

You are probably right Stealth as its been a while and I am on the latest 266x software.

@ Pazz that is only for 266x software and mine is factory fit.

Do you know which version you had? As far as I know you only had to change it for 266x. The previous version I had didn't need it.

@ QD, don't think I missed that.  :booty:

@Hedge I'm pretty sure I'm on 900 or something, ancient I know!

On another note,

Has anyone managed to get their dealer to upgrade the firmware? Mine's going in next Monday so might see if they'll do it. I just dont wanna risk bricking it.

Is yours OEM or afters Pazz?

I took a chance as mine was factory fit and I was fine but I have heard of aftermarket ones that brick especially if they are a Heinz 57 special.

Right, it's pretty much all fitted, Nav, Bluetooth and Mdi. Tested it all and it is just awesome. Just got to refit all the trims etc, which will be done first thing. Roll on tomorrow morning. It just look so much more slick than the rcd300.

Very good.

Just a quick extra question, to those that have retrofitted blutooth. Where have you located the mic?  I always go next to the rear view mirror, but just read on an American forum of someone that put theirs by the instrument cluster!?!?

And just one more question, its all in and working.  I have only been out in it for ten mins and and getting between 3-5 satellites, is that OK for this unit or should it be more?  Will it take time to learn?

Yes it's all fine now, finds at least 4. Sound quality is so much better as well.

How did I ever cope without the rns510????

Anyone else run the mdi??  As I have a small question??  It is great but sometimes seems to get confused and mute with the phone symbol on the screen, if I disconnect and reconnect it is fine. Any ideas?  Otherwise it's an awesome bit of kit.

Sorry, another question......

Not that I've tried yet, but I can play DVDs on the RNS510, right?  Is there a line out so I can hard wire in two DVD screens in the rear headrests for the bin-lids, so I don't have to buy a seperate system.

Cheers in advance

I believe video out is available on the latest firmware but I'm not sure how to set it up.

Also depending on where your unit came from a firmware upgrade may be a bad thing.
