Title: Handbrake Cable Seems To Be Squeeling
Post by: lukemk5gti on March 23, 2015, 09:55:17 am
I've noticed over the past month that when I apply my handbrake, 90% of the time it makes a noise like the cable is stretching and about to snap.

Do I just need my handbrake cable tightened or is it a replacement do you think?

How many times does the rachet click when you engage the handbrake? About 3-5 is normal, anymore and it's likely it'll need tightening. If it has been tighened before, then it'll need replacing. I would also check other components (like the rachet) to make sure it isn't those making the noise.

Yeah it's the usual 3 or 5 clicks, although I always engage the button before I pull so it doesn't have to click.

Why would it only happen sometimes though?

I suppose the only thing to do is get in and take a look!

It's difficult to say without hearing it, but definitely worth getting a good look at it all.
