Title: Black MK5 GTi AKA The Rabbit
Post by: J14RKL on March 24, 2015, 03:20:14 am
Bought this car of a well know forum member in December.
Its well known for being a bit of an animal
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fvv279%2FJ1_4RKL%2FIMAG0714.jpg&hash=60c49a3d03011310c861e3417f7eb03312817bd6)
Previously owned by James, build thread www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,43854.0.html

First thing i had done was all the paint work sorted out.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fvv279%2FJ1_4RKL%2FDetailedMK5.jpg&hash=e7a925694809925a494938ffd2c76cf495d868f7)

After this i started looking for some new wheels (wheel whore :) )
And i found some
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fvv279%2FJ1_4RKL%2FIMAG0770.jpg&hash=d88949d08bb40c3a43a27d39352b74379598a0e6)

And new Rubber :)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fvv279%2FJ1_4RKL%2FIMAG0800.jpg&hash=a754a43beb41d02fb508570c91da5a89ed91c0ad)
But silver is so boring so i had them redone and the result, well its a bit like marmite...
But they have a habbit of winning people over. They grow on everyone.

Next up was making the car a nicer place to be, im a massive fan of in car audio. High end stuff, nothing from halfrauds :P
So i sound deadend the front doors

Curtasy of Rich At dynodaze custom works.

Second was a new exhaust system due to, yet again, the R32 back box not flowing very well past 380bhp
Done by Dean at RW Developments

Then it went back to its second home
Rich at dynodaze fitted a TTRS LPFP and a 155bar FRV for me
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fvv279%2FJ1_4RKL%2FIMAG0834.jpg&hash=0e1d669a742c2acb59d9c3d055b3c5969729cd72)

Niki put a Base map on it to make sure all the new mods were safe.
So now its only 380/380, On a BASE map lol!
But it has Launch control and NLS, which is almost too much fun!

I will try and update this as stuff happens.

Not quite sure on the blue wheels or the 3 spokes in general.
But performance wise, spot on!

Liking the new audio and performance mods. Can it actually put the power down with the launch control?

Not on the road, just sits there Bashing the hard cut and making loads of noise.
I'll find out what it does on the strip soon.

Speak to niki about it. It can be bad for the engine if abused though.

NLS is definatly worth getting though. Sounds like a dsg through the gears.

No Lift Shift, So flat shifting, not sure exotically what he does. Just a hard cut kinda thing so you can keep your foot down when changing gear.

Pikey with the 500bhp golf crunched his gearbox before he sold it, not sure it was because of the power or what but he mentioned NLS as possibly being a cause?

nice setup, what turbo are you running, k04 hybrid? Will you be able to extra power by running TTRS in tank pump and 155psi FRV? i thought the RS4 valve were good enough..

Standard K04-064

The car has ran 404bhp before but was running out of fuel due to the standard LPFP, the TTRS one is a well know upgrade to flow much better then standard. 155bar FRV will allow much more headroom.

Wow, didn't realise that you were still running the standard K04!!! That's mental!

Can't wait to see what the TTE420 can make down there...... :happy2:

Guess i should update this a little.

Everything was going fine then....

I was sat in traffic, suddenly a horrific misfire occurred.
Pulled over a plugged vag-com in but nothing major came up, misfire and a few others.
Cleared codes and it was fine for all of about 5 mins, same again. misfire same cylinder. Also got some funky code 'Cylinder Disassembling'
Got on the phone to Alex at AKS and asked for his advice, he suggested PCV.

Drove it 10 miles and it was terrible, called a mate and got towed. It was something BAD so decided i would compression test it suspected cylinder 3 fault so did it last lol #1 13 bar #2 13 bar #4 13 bar #3..... 4 Bar

Time to take the head off
5 hours later, no sign on melted pistons. Dropped the sump/balancer. Popped piston 3 up and well yeh

Also found that the front left spring had broken so a call to KW to get replacements for both front.
Cleaned the unit up while they were out.

Clutch was just about dead, sent it off to helix to be re-Padded and got a call saying the springs were dead.
So a full replacement friction plate was ordered with even stronger springs.

Relocated the battery to the boot.

Also found a 10mm Snap-On spanner balanced on the steering rack, Thanks @james (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=3247)

Massive Thanks To @vRSAlex (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1981) at AKS. Having to put up with me calling him every other day for advice and confirm my thoughts.
