Does your dash display when you first fill it up? I filled mine up, to the brim, and it gave 290. This normal? Reason I ask is I seem to remember a figure of 36mpg. Its a 50l tank, with 1 galeon = 4.54 litres, so that's 11.1 galleons. So 11.1 x 36 = 400 miles... Quite a difference. To achieve 290, id have to have been driving at around 25mpg. Is this more likely? :ashamed:

I think it goes off how you're driving at that moment in time, mine differs a lot wether I fill up within a few minutes of starting up/after a long tedious run.. Might just be me noticing irrelevant things mind!
-
Mine generally displays around 400 mile range when i fill up but usually get about 350 miles from a tank (mixed driving)
-
Yeh I think that figure is based upon your last 5 miles or so of driving, I've brimmed it after a thrashing before and it said 220miles, I've filled after a long run and had 340 miles. You'll notice it going up after if you drive carefully.
-
You lucky bugger. That's what mine usually says...or around 310. But yeah, the above reply is spot on, it is dependent on the actual miles to empty driving style at the point of filling and it uses the reference of average MPG for that single journey. The higher 36mpg would granny driving continual and the overall MPG figure. Although on both of my mk5's I've never been able to sustain that when combined driving, only ever on motorway.
-
Filled mine on Saturday and it was showing 355. Normally when I fill it is shows in the region of 300-360, but I normally then only get around 150 miles in and it's showing a range of 100 miles remaining!
-
When I fill mine, it usually shows between 305-330 miles from a full tank. I have seen almost 400 miles after filling up from a run back from Exeter.
-
Town driving I usually get about 340mi to a tank. Long motorway trips the most I got was 489mi to a tank. I could of got to 500mi but there wasn't another Shell garage further down the road to risk running out of fuel to claim my goal.

What was you doing on my turf?

Mine usually say's about 350 when I fill up but I usually only get about 180-200 from a tank! :innocent:
-
What do you guys do in your Gti's to get such poor mpg  seriously even with some spirited driving on a general mixed driving full tank a never see less than 330 miles from a tank
-
Constant stop start 8 mile journey to work, then same back home 5/6 days a week, then out for a spin at the weekend semi spirited!
-
Even when I drive my car with a super light foot I can't get over 315 miles to a tank in my Stage 1 edition 30 :stupid:
-
I can count only a few occasions that I got LESS than 400 miles out of my GTI.
I would regularly get between 400 and 440. I could usually get well over 450 if it was longer drives.
My usual commute was 2 miles door to door with a few 50 mile round trips to the mrs place in the week.
The lowest I ever got was about 350.

See I've recently found out how to get the mpg on the dashboard.
When I start the journey it starts at about 7, 8 then works it's way up to 25,26 with easy driving but that's only if I manage to go between thirty and fifty for about a mile or two. I work in town so the first 15 minutes or so it stays around 10,11 mpg because it's lots of stop start.
I've yet to go on a longer journey with it but I reckon over a longer period of time it will go up to 30s
-
High 30's - 40mpg is possible, but you need a long journey and a very light throttle foot. Coasting up to junctions in gear with your foot off the pedal makes a big difference. :happy2:
I like using the power too much these days and settle for low-mid 30's on a run

My MPG is horrific especial around town... Driving it normally I'll get about 19mpg, if I drive it hard I get about 14mpg (average over a longer period)... If I drive it insanely gentley, I'm talking about not going beyond 2000rpm, coasting as much as I can etc I'll do about 24mpg. All around town though. On a motorway run I'll get about 34mpg.
