...Any chaps on here running a carbon or vinyl roof?
I've seen two or three on the Vortex site with the US guys.
Are you looking at £3k + for such a mod?
Pete

£3k? sweet jebus no dude, you should be looking at about £50-60 upwards depending on the choice of vinyl
-
I assume Vinyl is the imitation then?
I'm talking about the material the E92 M3's come with which I'm sure is a high grade Carbon in which case? lol

Dead smart. How much did that set you back if you don't mind the question Blade?I assume Vinyl is the imitation then?

Imitation as in a replica, i.e. the roof itself isn't carbon. I think it's pricey on the M3's?
If it's a lot more feasible price wise than I thought, then that's ace. Is there a plainer black without the pattern from these guys you speak of?

mines been on for a year or so now and still looks fresh lol

there are many places for vinyl. cheapest if you only want a flat colour will always be a local sign company that wrap vans all day, a flat roof will be a doddle.
colours, everythings out there..no really...everything! especially if you take the printed route. cut vinyl you'll be limited to solid colours or varying finishes satin/silk/gloss/holo/metallic/ etc etc as its on the roll manufactured....worlds your lobster

Is this what the A3's with the 'black' affect roof have, an OEM Vinyl that VAG fit?

Not sure but I would have thought they would be painted.

....
CF roof is the real thing on CSL's. On GTI's as an aftermarket mod you could have a job finding an insurer.

^ The BIALI friend who owned this car sold it when he got married :sad1: - Very, very sad indeed :sad1:

I still can't seem to get the need for a CSL out of my system, might be all change come spring.
I know you can buy CSL carbon roofs for normal M3s, usually done to get rid of a sunroof on a track car - I wouldn't envisage a problem insuring it, as it isn't structural, the integrity is in the frame. Obviously you'd want it fitted by someone who knows what they're doing though.
You'd be brave cutting it off!!

....Would you like me to post some more CSL pics or do you already have a hard-drive full?

....Yes, as an additional skin, no problem insuring, but not as a roof substitute - As you rightly point out about the structural aspect. Sorry, I should have made that clear but assumed someone would only add a real carbon panel as a subsitute.
-
No, I can't drive home with wood... so save the pics
Yeah, I'm talking about a roof replacement panel, cut the old one out and bond the new one in. I know someone who has done it and the insurance is no problem at all.
-
^^^^
Relatively unusual about insurance being ok. But that's why I wrote "could have a job finding an insurer" rather than "would..".
I expect that someone such as Greenlight would be ok but your average family car insurer wouldn't. But they probably wouldn't even know what carbonfibre is!

....Why not? When you arrive home your missus/GF/partner might say something like: "Is that a gun in your pocket, or are you just pleased to see me?" :jumpmove:

This group buy might be of interest if you fancy a bit of DIY

Specialist insurance goes without saying, you don't insure a modded M3 with useless.co.uk!
My brain doesn't function with the blood loss, it'd be like driving tipsy ha ha!

Yep, she knows - the eyes go "naughty" and I have selective hearing, apparently... ha ha!
Oh, and on topic - the good quality CF vinyl looks and feels really good. A full roof is dependant on the car whether it'd be too much or work well

Is a vinyl wrap roof another one the insurance companies can be funny about? If it's classed as just a minor aftermarket mod, I'll look at the costs
