Title: cant get the engine cover off
Post by: nonamecc79 on March 31, 2015, 07:31:26 pm
Hi guys and gals,

Im struggling to get the damn engine cover off of my jetta bwa engine. I want to add a k&n panel filter before i send her off to rtech to be mapped. This is the first car where im actually struggling to change an air filter!! Any advice would be appreciated. Don't fancy paying to service the thing then i dont have full service history anyway. Cheers

I watched that video already. The problem is when i go to pull the cover, it doesnt come apart. It feels like im gonna snap the whole thing as it flexs quite badly. It almost feels as if its being held on by something like a screw.

slightly different cover but mine was stuck on one of the bungs at the back, i just left the engine running for a good 10 mins before trying it to make sure it was warm to help and with a good wiggle it popped out

At first it can seem unnerving the amount of force you have to use to remove the cover, you wont break it if you pull it in the right areas...the design is a bit sh*t.

Once you get it off apply some grease to the posts and the grommets so next time you wont need to pull as hard :happy2:.

To get the engine cover off properly you really need VCDS.
First Run a fault scan, then
Select Engine module.
On the Adaptation menu:
code the first 5 bytes as follows:  AP   RI     LL    F0    0L

Always comes off easier if the engine is warm . Mine wouldn't shift when it was cold.
