Title: Good/Cheap Insurance???
Post by: AJG09 on April 02, 2015, 11:14:00 am
So my Insurance is up for renewal soon and i will have 1 year ncb.

Im basically looking around trying to get some quotes for when this happens so i can get the best deal.

Ive tried a number of "specialist" insurers that claim to offer cheap insurance for VW golfs etc and they have all been way off the mark!

My last quote i got was for £1900 with 1 year NCB and i currently pay £1400 without any NCB (NEW DRIVER)  :driver:

Has anybody got any decent suggestions? I only drive a 1.6 FSI, hardly a performance car.

Cheers

I just renewed with Greenlight Insurance, they saved me a fair few quid, but I am a fair bit better off with 8 years NCB! Others to try are:

Adrian Flux
Sky Insurance
HIC Insurance

Good luck getting the price down, it's frankly sick how much younger drivers pay!

+1 for Adrian Flux, theyve been great for me in the past, especially when i was younger! Aviva are great these days for me, but no idea for young 'uns.

Price comparisons are pretty useful too, as you've seem.

Good luck and enjoy the motor when you get insured  :happy2:

If you're a young driver try adding an experienced driver as a second named driver (like your parents). They don't exactly need to drive your car yet occasionally it can help reduce premiums which I found out when I was young.

If you are also in employment you could try tweaking your work occupation to see if you can save a bit on that as well. MSE's Job Picker (http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/car-insurance-job-picker/ (http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/car-insurance-job-picker/)) can assist on what occupations are cheaper than what you typically put in (so for example instead of Office Staff you can be more specific like an Administration Staff and so on and see if it's cheaper).

When I was helping my Uncle doing his car insurance he normally puts himself as a chef but he also runs as manager of his own catering shop. So when I put him as "Shop Manager" instead of "Chef" he saved over £300 on his Golf which was barmy. But be honest when you're doing this, don't choose occupations where clearly you don't work in.

Aaaaah, the benefits of being old and 10+ year NCB, cause I've just renewed my ED30's ins for £284

Esure seems to come up a bit on here, that's who I am with aswell and the price they gave was great.

Alternatively there is someone from an insurance company who posts on the new members section quite a bit (look at replies to new members).  Sorry if this has already been stated, cant remember the name of the place.

Managed to get it down to £1025 by doing this trick... nice one  :happy2: il keep looking and trying others over the next month.

Your best bet in my opinion for what it's worth  is use compare the market.com u will get screwed/shafted/degraded/ violated in fact there's not enough nouns in English language to describe it, but whoever you go with but at least you can claim a free teddy  :signLOL:. And remember we have all been there paid ours and done our time it's like a right of passage. An expensive crappy one really crappy crap crappity crap, maybe consider a smaller engine a nice 1.2 for instance, maybe even a 16 v i can hear those grubby insurers hands rubbing together already  :signLOL: at least it's gone down a lot for blokes since they brought in this insurance equality thing.

Oh and telling little porky pies I would try and avoid, given any excuse they will not pay out. Give the truth to your best knowledge, and lie about any mods.  :signLOL:

I jest of course.

Been with greenlight for 2 year. First time my current insurers have beat the rest. Mods insured free aswell.

£400 at 27 with 3 points and a tonne of mods not bad.

Greenlight for me. My premium has continued to lower with them each year so never bothered with the hassle of shopping around. Simple and straight forward with the them.

I would avoid the comparison sites if you intend to modify your car
