Title: Optical Parking Kit
Post by: Lyons on April 03, 2015, 08:02:47 am
Has anyone ever fitted one of these kits in a Mk5?

http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/201283942290?nav=WATCHING_ACTIVE

I found a good thread on the r32oc about fitting front and rear sensors, but it was a variety of bits and not a kit as such.

Am I right to assume there's no reason why this wouldn't work with an RNS and correct gateway?

Couple of members have. Have a chat with @SI-R32 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1757)

I think it might've been his thread I saw. Was just keen to hear f anyone had used this particular kit.

Si can you remind me what part numbers you used? There seemed to be a lot mentioned in your thread!

I have the rear optical parking complete with camera too!

@eddie-nl installed mine for me.

Any idea what the part numbers of your module and sensors are?

I just bought this one from that seller - I couldn't see any difference in the eBay link above.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OEM-4-Sensors-Rear-Parking-System-OPS-for-VW-Jetta-MK5-Golf-MK6-RCD510-RNS510-/191211754714?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2c851bd4da (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OEM-4-Sensors-Rear-Parking-System-OPS-for-VW-Jetta-MK5-Golf-MK6-RCD510-RNS510-/191211754714?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2c851bd4da)

Hope it'll work with my bumper I've got waiting to go on - it already has the holes cut out for parking sensors but am unsure if these will fit.

I bought it last week too, will be a while before it arrives.

Does yours have the factory for sensors? If so, the holes for them are bigger than the Mk6 sensors I'm afraid! In saying that if you look at si-r32's thread I believe he may have got a piece to fill the hole and out the sensor in the middle of it.

Yeah I was reading up on it yesterday. Going to just cut 18mm holes in my current bumper which doesn't have mk5 OEM holes.

I'll probably sell the other upper bumper for peanuts with the mk5 sensor holes!

@Lyons (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1029) - did you ever get these fitted?

I am about to start wiring these up this morning but am a little lost on how to get it to connect to the can gateway.

Would maybe need some advice!

Just noticed this. No, got the sensors fitted months ago but still haven't managed to get them wired up. Hoping to get up to Paul this week and let him do it just. No time myself any more!

@SI-R32 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1757) am I right in thinking the module is installed in the front of the car? I undertook phase 2 last night (installing the wiring) and looking at the way the can wires etc were I made the assumption the module goes in the front, despite it going in the rear of an 8P A3. I have all the connectors bundled up above the fuse box for now, and the speaker in the boot.

No number plate lights now until I get it all wired connected!

Well in the mk6 yes it's in the front,    I put mine in the back as it just made it easier,  but as the mk5 has no holder in the front you'll have to cable tie it in somewhere,  but not a problem to do this

Did the can wires reach to the front ok or did you need to extend them? There didn't seem to be enough slack in them to get up to the front. I never really tried to be fair, just got that impression.

When I did mine the looms weren't available like now days so I made all of mine up,  so kinda did extend any wires I could including the can as this needs to be connected to the power train can bus for ops

Ok cheers. I assume the wires are the length they are in the kit because the module is in the front of the Mk6 then.

It's going in on Friday to get connected up so just wanted to check if I was going to have to swap the wiring round!

I got the wires connected in yesterday and the sensors work. Sadly they weren't able to get the display working in the rear as I believe all 8 are needed first.

So now I'm considering doing the fronts too.

Need to have another detailed read through your thread Si as I'd previously ignored any reference to the fronts!

Why 8? If your ops module supports 4, when display should work. If your module is 8, but you wired 4, it should only beep loudly. I have only rear installed on mine  with OPS display and everything is working as it should.

Hmm, my module is 4. How did you get it displayed?

Would it depend on exact part number of the module? Maybe other revisions of gateway or conveinience module?

Have you coded it? And what's your gateway?

I honestly don't remember, maybe an R or P. Is there a specific 1 that would work? Or is it down to where you code it or another module?

If you had pdc before and went for OPS you have to change the coding, P can gateway is too old aswell. PDC is on the address 76, OPS is on 10, park/steer assist.

It's also on a different can network ,  pdc on convenience can,  ops on power train  can

The wiring is the main thing aswell, haven't mentioned, because it "must do"  :happy2:

I had nothing before.

What's the part umber of your ops module @Pashka (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=5723) ?

Lyons,

Did you manage to get the optical display working?

In order to get it working, you need to code the module (Park Assist - address 10).
In order to code the optical display setting, you need to get security access firstly to the controller.

Let me know if you need VCDS or anything and I can come help out.

Not yet, it was left that I have the wrong module I think. You said yours was an 8 sensor one? Do you know the part number?

I assume you got yours working then?

Yeah 8 sensor. Middle section has nothing plugged in.

I know you saw the part number from the other thread, but for continuity purposes for randoms searching the web.....

Were you able to gain access to the controller via VCDS or similar? That bit's the key. When I got mine connected up and before coding, it just had a loud beep when selecting reverse, but nothing worked with regard to the sensors.

I didn't do the coding, so I'm not sure.

Sadly this is the only photo I have of mine and when I zoom in I cant make out the part number!

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi95.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fl129%2FLyonzo%2FMobile%2520Uploads%2FC29DC43D-B610-4DC1-AE34-3313B7EA3A80_zpssdskjkt8.jpg&hash=7444b1d744b62a215a141c2da923909d9f15f0df) (http://s95.photobucket.com/user/Lyonzo/media/Mobile%20Uploads/C29DC43D-B610-4DC1-AE34-3313B7EA3A80_zpssdskjkt8.jpg.html)

Maybe wouldn't do any harm to meet up and you can try and apply the same coding you have. I don't have VCDS to check the part number and I don't think its visible from where its installed!

To complete this thread, Lyons' Park Assist module hadn't been coded with optical display selected so while the sensors worked it wasn't being displayed on the RNS.

The fix was to gain Security Access to the controller first and then code the optical display feature.

Just a heads up for anyone finding similar problems.
