Title: What else goes wrong?
Post by: SiofChester on April 07, 2015, 04:50:51 pm
So what are the common faults with the Mk5 GTi, I'm on 100K and have just had the "oil pressure" oil pickup problem. I hate unreliable cars so would rather do preventative maintenance... So what else goes wrong, I've done the coil packs, clutch / DMF, oil pickup, timing belt and water pump, cam follower.... What other common problems have folks had?

I took mine from 50k miles up to 100k miles (MY06) and the only thing that forced me to replace it was the air con compressor and a turbo valve.

Other than that, it was very good although I did look after it well  :innocent:

You can be lucky, or you can be fairly unlucky with some parts - check out the service guides on here to make sure you keep on top of the 'make sure you've replaced this part' sorta' maintenance.

CV boots, cam followers and patches of corrosion (which I had under the wheel arch) are three of the favourites as already mentioned  :happy2:
