Title: Edition 30 - help needed please
Post by: GeoffKnight on April 08, 2015, 10:36:34 am
Newbie here... just sold my Renaultsport Megane dci and I'm in the market for a Mk5 gti.

I've seen a 2005 (05) advertised...it's listed as an Edition 30 and the person selling confirmed it is.

However, there is no red stitching on the seats or steering wheel, the Edition 30 badge on the rear is on the left under the gti badge.

Also, the Edition 30 model came out in 2006.

Sound dodgy??   Should I steer clear?

Look under the bonnet and if you can't see a dump valve in front of the radiator and a long pipe coming from that, which runs along side the engine cover and down the back, it ain't no Edition!   A lot of people fake GTIs to be Editions, and diesels!   What about the rest of the car?  Coded bumpers and skirts?  18" pescaras?

Put the registration into confused.com to do a dummy quote and it will say "Edition 30 230" if it's a genuine car.  Should also say it on the logbook iirc.

Thanks Pudding.

I've not viewed the car yet... it's down in SE London and I'm in Aylesbury so didn't want to waste a journey.

It doesn't have Pescara alloys... its fitted with 17" Monza's in gloss black.   It has colour coded black bumpers and skirts.

The chap selling it said it's an early Edition 30 and they didn't have the red stitching.

It's also on personalised plates so not able to check history.

Something tells me that it's not and Edition and I should walk away.

I'm getting that feeling also.  I would look elsewhere!  The 18" BBS make an Edition the car it is imo, so why anyone would replace them with 17" Monzas sounds a bit fishy to me!

18th November 2005 - You can check any plate on something like parkers. Also states a standard GTI, like you said it would be too early for an edition30.

That is no Edition 30. The only Edition 30 part that it has is in the wrong place, under the GTI badge in the rear. :rolleye:

Have found an 2005 (05) mk5 gti with 83k from a dealer which I'm looking at this Friday.  Full leather, sat-nav, FSH, totally standard.
Reasonably priced at £5999
In silver though...was hoping for a black or grey one.

Rubbish photos and no grammar. That would put me off the car straight away anyway! Trivial maybe, but it says a lot about the type of person who owns it. Dyslexia isn't an excuse either really - find someone to proof read it.

Anyway as above its definitely not an ed30 and it's too early for it to be also.

Hope you find a nice example :)

Its clearly not an Ed30 but just for 100% confirmation I did a vehicle check at work and the vehicle comes back as a standard GTi. To be honest though No Edition 30 owner in their right mind would have their vehicle looking like that one in the picture  :happy2:
