Hi,
this is my first post, i have a touran which shares the same platform as the mk5 but there's not many touran forums - even less modified ones.
so i'd like to hear peoples opinions / advice on handling upgrades
i'm currently on KW coilovers
mk5 gti subframe / rack
polybushed wishbones
new engine mounts
gti front and rear arbs
i've heard mention of TTRS rear arb upgrade?
-
Sorry I can't help with your first question but with that little lot installed you would have been better buying a GTI
:signLOL:
-
I did  and i stripped it and scrapped it :stupid:
I prefer the touran though
-
I did use a few bits though

Sup! :happy2:

Mr wigley, and arb recommendations or handling mods worth doing. Starting to think these Kw are just too soft
-
Hi,
The best tyres you can afford is good (no heavy wheels).
TT mk2 top mounts are good.
Fresh Lemforder ball joints & drop links from eurocarparts are good.
Superpro wishbone anti lift bush is good.
KW/H&R/Eibach upgraded arbs are good.
How low are you on your KWs? If you've lowered it below the t.u.v. height your roll centre is no longer optimum... which is not good.
Cheers.

ARBS... Camber up front... Superpro anti lift kit... decent alignment. Even on stock suspension that should be good.
Which KW are they? Decent adjustable coilovers are over 1000 quid. :scared:
I am looking for some decent adjustable shocks to go with lowering springs, IMO that for me would be the perfect solution.

thanks grumpy
all front end / joints / bushes are couple of k miles old
i'm not too concerned about wheels / tyres i just don't want it to feel like it's going to fall over when you turn in.
my old derv touran was on AP's and 19x8.5 wheels and handled very well (for a bus)
i'll get some mk2 tt topmounts then for when i lay my hands on AP's, the KW are as low as they can go but theres no chance i'll raise it :D
is the TT RARB a worthwhile upgrade?

KW are the V1 inox line, but far too soft - i'm looking for someone to swap me some AP's
i'll take a look at this anti lift kit, i had full laser allign on it's test drive :D
-
ok so apparently passat r36 rarb is a decent cheap option to go for :happy2:
-
Hi olethalb,
The V1s can be a superb fast road suspension as long as you don't tax them with heavy wheels or heavy r32 brakes.
And they go lower than their stated drop which looks good but handling suffers a lot.
I'd be tempted to raise the suspension to how it's designed to operate, forget a rear uprated arb but add an uprated adjustable from arb and set it to firm.
The caster tweak with the superpro rear anti lift bush helps dial out understeer and is welcomed.
Nice tyres and grippy pads will compliment.
Cheers.

This is my old touran tdi on ap as low as they go

My current touran on kw as low as they can go

They are pretty similar heights, maybe 10mm difference but the ap handled much much better than the kw do, like i say raising is not an option especially as the ap performed much better at their lowest setting
The rarb i may as well do for £60
I'll get the tt top mounts for sure, i've also been in contact with dpm about stiffer springs :happy2:
-
fitted new AP's at the weekend with new topmounts and some 19x8.5 pheaton helios wheels, handling is greatly improved
will add R36 rear arb asap and see how that works out, then look into anti lift kit and then front arb if it still needs help
:happy2:
-
just to keep this going, really loving the AP over the KW corner much flatter :happy2:
i've since added powerflex DB bush insert, passat R36 rear ARB (not as uprated as i was led to belive - still hollow but the wall thickness is 3.6mm opposed to 3mm for gti) i notice a slight difference with RARB - unsure if it's better because it's slightly thicker or because it's brand new with new bushings / mounts
i've also got an uprated front ARB on the way and new ball joints, drop links and track rod ends to go on then another 4 wheel allign
it's very close to where i want it, hoping the front arb and refresh will do the trick, i'll also add powerflex anti lift kit at some stage too.
-
Just get the 28/24mm H&R roll bar kit. Will transform the wagon.
-
i've already got a VWR 26mm front on it's way to me bud so i'll see how that fairs with new links / joints etc all round.
hoping i can start attending to the body soon
-
When we had the missus touran i did the following to it, it help a lot lowering the unsprung weight and fitting the TTRS dampers and springs

-
thanks bud, i have just fitted brand new AP after removing the KW and i'm very happy with them, i'm one of those keep lowering it idiots but was hoping to improve the handling too :signLOL:
i looked at the ally s3 bits before but prices are stupid on ebay so i'll keep my eyes open if anything pops up at a reasonable price.
weill i fitted the VWR front arb last night with new ball joints, track rod ends and drop links, set the ARB on the harder setting - obviously it needs another Geo but was much better on the way home through the twisties :happy2:
last bit i want to do are the powerflex anti lift kit, i'm fairly happy with it at the mo but it's the only bit that hasn't been done now.
-
Some pics stop it getting boring
