Title: Can anyone code a key?
Post by: TaylorGTi on April 15, 2015, 09:08:30 am
Does anyone have the ability to code a blank key to my car in the essex area?

Iv decided to loose my spare and assuming vw have an outrageous price to replace it I'd rather pay someone on here  :happy2:

Cheers

As long as you have VCDS or a VAG diagnostic tool (like the Foxwell NT-500), you should be able to do it yourself at home whenever you like. :happy2: Or get a local VCDS owner to help you out (guy above is a good guy).

Depends on the age of the car, whether it uses immo 4a or 4c. newer ones need a lot more than just VCDS (pre-coded keys, cluster is encrypted etc)

I tried to code one of the keys that came with my car. It opens the doors starts the engine but then the immobiliser kicks in and engine goes off. I suspect this is because i need the code that was on the key?

Mine is a 57 plate and needed a key coding few months ago
Called a local guy who said he could do it and had done loads etc etc

Anyway he fooked it and ended up tripping the immobilisor into a lock down and timer appeared on dash saying cant start car for 300 minutes

Obviously had a huge barney with the guy on my drive way and told him fook off!

Took it to Chester Vw dealer and they charged me £40 job done which included a free vehicle health check  :surprised:

Moral of the story is just take it to a dealer unless you know of someone who is very competent to do it unlike the clown i got  :stupid:

The stealers want €90 to code the key.

later cars require a pre-coded key which would be vin specific
