Title: Gearboxes, Clutches, DMF's :)
Post by: Scottymon on April 16, 2015, 08:16:43 pm
Not a great day today, either Clutch or Gearbox has given up... it's a S1.5 K03 GTI with 148k on it.

You can engage all gears, clutch pedal is no different, but there's no drive... at all.

There was a bang at WOT around 4k RPM then no drive.... no additional noise or smell from clutch, gearlinkage seems ok...

what do we think? Clutch or Gearbox?  Just waiting on box to be dropped (nxt week).  Any suggestions on which clutch/dmf box (recon/used?)

Strange as I've been thinking of selling her for sometime, but I guess I feel better that the next owner didn't get lumped with a big bill.

Looks like I blew the clutch up... so new clutch and DMF; gearbox ok.

What are the suggestions for that? Luk / Sachs / Helix

And what are we "generally" looking at for Clutch/DMF replacement ALL IN - $$$$$$$

 :happy2:  :happy2:

I went to this shop last week, colinashop.ro. They have a used (only 4000 miles on it) Sachs Performance with DMF for about 300£.
If you're interested I can give them a call tomorrow.

Something similar happened to me 6 months ago and it was only one drive shaft.

I've just had a new LUK and Helix organic clutch fitted to my vRS; I recommend this set-up highly. Nice level of bite; slightly firmer pedal, but feels like it'll take stage 2 power all day.
