Title: How to tell the difference between AXX and BWA
Post by: Scottymon on April 21, 2015, 09:41:32 am
My car had a new engine fitted at 40k by VW previous owner... My car is a 55 plate so would be AXX... However I'm sure there's a chance they could have fitted a BWA.. Is there any visual way to tell?

The reason I ask is because there's two different types of LUK flywheel for each engine  :rolleye:

Looking at the engine block. Under the cam cover on the right (above gearbox.  You should see it stamped what the engine is.

The cambelt cover on the left hand side should have a sticker with engine code on - unless this was retained from previous engine
