Ace, but 50k is way too much.
Any news on how many are planned for production?  Cheap lease deals for 16 platers!?

That's €50k and that that converts to around £35,800

It so needed the 5 cylinder Audi engine from the RS3. Imagine that noise (real noise) in a Golf

Sub £40k PCP will be under £400 a month =

That will be 1 hell of a car if they get it right
Standard mk7 R prices may suffer for it though!
Nah stick with the 2.0 leave the 2.5 in the nose heavy thirsty RS3

3.9 seconds really is super car territory

Could say id rather a turbo R32 and blow it away or a heavily modified vw polo  :rolleye:
Your missing the point that its going to be an absolute animal straight out the box

In hindsight I agree with that statement regarding the engine. But I hope they give it some real noise not this synthesized BS.

Definitely this; I find it quite unlikely VW would simply max out the 7R, especially if they are doing an extended run of the R420... there's going to be some "headroom" in software terms... at the very least 450... ...500 if they map as well as the 7R does...

Are the R420 and 7R using the same turbo though, that would give us a clue before hand?

Am I wrong in thinking the R400 (or 420, whichever) is the 40th birthday anniversary edition Golf? Or are VW doing a separate ED40 next year?

The ED40 will be a GTI, and as such, FWD.

The R is another 'brand' all together.

3.9 seconds really is super car territory

3.9 seconds is slower than a Stage 1 'Normal' R - they can do 3.7 seconds to 60 (repeatable)   :jumping: - and that's with 370-380bhp

Even the standard R has been proven to beat it's 'book' 0-60 of 4.9 seconds. Auto express Magazine managed 4.6 seconds with a passenger, some luggage, tank of fuel and streaming wet weather

Enough to convince me to order one

3.9 secs is for 0-62mph, so 0-60 may well be around 3.5 if the OEM claim is conservative

Gotta say though, if single turbo it's gonna be lag tastic!!!

But if they do twin turbo, now that could be very interesting!  :driver:

At a sub £40K price I'd suspect 4 pots personally. But here's to hoping its 6 or 8 pots borrowed from the family.

Well it's good that VW seem to be committed to doing the Clubsport (would absolutely love one!), but I wonder if the R400 will ever be built, with all the emissions scandals and all - I'd have thought they've already scaled back any non core development spend.

To echo flashp & rdfcpete - the 5 cyl from the RS3 in a Golf would be immense. I reckon the 'Scene' will build this car anyway in some form...

Hope they release the R420, it does seem uncertain during the current climate, but I'd like to wager not an awful lot is too much different from the 7R in reality.
Perhaps a lot of the model specific parts have been manufactured already..?

Production of the R420 seems necessary

Steve at Stattler up the road from me has done just that - 5cyl turbo in a mk6. Not sure if it's finished, it looked very much mid-project when I saw it in the summer.

It doesn't deliver it the same way as a turbo car but it is way more usable.  :driver:
