Title: Couple of stone chips on my bonnet
Post by: mac456 on April 24, 2015, 04:58:44 pm
Hi,

So today after cleaning the car I noticed a few stones chips on the bonnet and there is a slight amount of rust where each chip is.
How likely will this spread over time?

Rust always spreads, always.....

Stone chip repair kits, will hopefully stop it. i.e. clean it up to get rid of rust and the paint it will stop it.
Trouble is that most kits are crap, and u can spot the repairs a mile of, but it stops it rusting.

Get rid of the rust and then just touch it up , it won't spread if you touch it up right , use a very thin end of a match cut with a stanley knife to a point . Push the paint into the edge of the chip and don't overfill on first touch up . Do it once or twice more and only just go over the edge of the chip . Put lacquer on the same way .

£9 for a touch up kit from TPS. Just picked mine up for bonnet chips and a few on the roof above the windscreen.
