Title: Disc warped quick?
Post by: Airz182 on April 24, 2015, 10:00:04 pm
Put new disc and pads on girlfriends car about a year ago, but now its got bad brake wobble when pressing the brakes, wiuld you expect to get like nger than a year iut if disc and pads, its a tdi golf and she's hardly a girl racer! So wouldnt expect them to need replacing so soon

What's her commute like? A lot of people brake from 50/60/70+ mph and then sit at a junction / traffic lights with their foot still on the pedal; great way to warp discs.

Assuming the wheel bolts / caliper bolts are all torqued and pads seated. Perhaps they've glazed a bit and need an italian tune up. :driver:

Were they OEM discs and pads?

Cheers for replie. Her daily driving is probably around 30-40mph. The disc were pagid ones. I did actually try tightening the wheels but they were tight will try caliper bolts and see if that makes any difference.

Yeah, personally, I'd take the wheel/s off and recheck everything, making sure you never fully tighten one bolt (caliper or wheel) fully before the others have been offered into the thread - I'm sure you know this.

Pagid are more than fine as a brand though, just as good as ATE (standard) imo.

Perhaps she's more of a Girl racer than she lets on and has properly cooked them. :happy2:

If you bought Pagid from one of the cheap online parts sites (Eurocarparts ETc. . ) then it may not be top quality Pagid. Bit of a con IMHO

seized/stiff caliper piston.
Is That whats cause the warped disc, or thats what could be causing brake wobble?

If there's any grit or debris trapped between the hub and the disc at the point of fitting that can also cause the discs to run out. Might be worth checking. Sounds like they need replacing now in any case!

Bought my Pagid from CarParts4Less - warped under a year.... If Pagid are poor on ECP they're prob worse here  Prob give Mtec drilled and grooved discs a go next..

that is what would cause them to warp. worth checking before you fit replacements.

When the disk is new if you don't bed the brakes in properly they can warp quite easily. As long as they have not done too much mileage since you can straighten them out if they are not too bad, just get some heat in them and let them cool off before doing too much other braking. (motorway at 2am good for that)

As they are cheap standard disks probably best to replace them and try again, different if you've got £2000 Brembos but then if you had they should have been bedded in according to their recommendations
