Title: Wheels, more wheels, even more bloody wheels.
Post by: Nino on April 26, 2015, 12:13:43 pm
Hey guys, i have had a few quotes now for my monza twos to be completely refurbished. Inc tyres off, new valves and tyres on with balancing im looking at around £420-50ish.

I am considering that i may not bother and keep them as winter wheels why? mainly because of the fact the 4 different places have all told me the same, once they are refurbished one stone chip, kurb rash and they need to be done again :( So now I am thinking of getting new wheels altogether. Now when it comes to wheels i am very picky i like concave style wheels but ive had 3SDM and although they are great wheels there is more sets of them around than Golfs on the round

I particularly like the Rotiform INDs but have found they only come in 19" and i want 18" my plan would be to reuse my new Michelin SSP 3's which are 225 wide. So would be no good for the inds. I have been told that you can get reps in 18" which are also cheaper. Does anyone know if this is true? Because Google suggests otherwise. I have also seen other sets i like made by a company called voseen trust me to have expensive taste

On saying that I have noticed that 3SDM have made new 0.04's which I like.

Help me guys im in a real pickle here.

Why would they need doing again if pick up a stone chip?
Just look after them
Ensure you keep them well sealed with a decent wax
Touch up any stone chips with clear laquer to prevent salt etc attacking the polished face
As for kerb rash you could say that about any wheel as they all look terrible if kerbed, simple andwer to that is don't kerb them or better still don't let the missus drive it

My polished Monza's are now over 7 years old and still looking great, few minor marks etc on them but otherwise spot on  :happy2:

Ps around £400 for full refurb including tyre removal/refit and balance sounds preety decent price really

Showing me pictures of wheels I can't stand certainly won't change my opinion
There are many wheels that suit the mk5 such as vmr wheels Audi speed lines
Speedline turinis bbs ck, ch, vz, rs, rsii

If you like concave wheels, give the 3sdm 0.01's a look too.

Saclrilege I know, but you could always get the monzas painted for easier maintenence in future...

I had them on my Mk4 GTI :) If I went 3SDM now it would ether be the 0.04's or 0.06

See if you can find a second hand set that's mint condition; that's what I did. I got a full un-used set with brand new budget tyres for £580. Sold the tyres for £200, so I had got myself a mint set for £380. I swapped over my two damaged wheels, sold them for £80 each, so that's £160 off the £380 leaving £120. I had spent £120 and still had two mint wheels left over, which are in the garage as back-up for when I damage them again haha.

I saw a mint set without tyres come up the other day for £550 on Grizza Trading

Refurbing is expensive and they will forever be 'refurbed'.
