Title: Dsg gear oil change question
Post by: so1o on April 27, 2015, 06:10:03 am
Hi guys

I'm going to hopefully change my dsg gearbox oil and filter over the next few days.

Where is the overflow plastic tube thing located?

Few days ago whilst under the car I saw the drain plug but could not see the plastic bit?

How are you planning to fill it?

Measure and replace or using VCDS?
Fill through filter housing?
Fill with fill tool?

Thanks for the replies guys.

I have vcds. Will get it up to temperature.

Fill through filter hole. I thought instead of measuring you could fill it up and the plastic thingy would just let the excess out.

Am I correct or totally wrong? I could measure it if needs be.

If you have VCDS then u can fill and drain off excess when at correct temperature.

Make sure the car is level. I used 4 axle stands.

im sure I read somewhere that you can do the oil change with it 5 litres but u think I also saw somewhere where it said you need 6 litres.

I used 5 but about one litre of oil stays in the system. So adding 6 litres would help to flush more of the old oil out.

I'm going to do the oil change today.

I will make sure car is flat. I will drain the oil and measure to see how much came out. I will add in exactly what came out +0.1/2L to make up for the oil in filter housing.

Doing it this way I don't need to use vcds do I? As I have put back exactly what came out. Correct?

As you have VCDS you may as well do it the correct way. Maybe it was not filled correctly in the past.

Cheers for the help people. Just done the change. Took a little over an hour. I didn't remove my battery tray. The longest bit was filling it through the top.
