Post by: Monza_GTI on April 29, 2015, 11:22:22 pm
hi peeps.

ive been using Falkens on my 18 inch monzas and need a new pair and have been looking around but cant decide on what to do.
i seem to be going through these fairly quickly so possibly considering splashing out a little more on a different sort of brand.

what brands and types have people had the most mileage out of?

As you readily acknowledge that this is another tyre thread why not read the other three and a half million first?

What is it about replies like this on this forum?

The guy was just asking a question, and you've gone out of your way to just have a sarcastic dig.

I joined here recently to try and learn a bit about my mk5 GTI, and hopefully have a bit of fun chatting to likeminded enthusiasts.

How foolish of me to assume it wasn't just another cliquey forum where newbies get the cold shoulder from the usual high posters in their ivory towers.

Great stuff.

Newbies are always welcome.. the more the merrier.

BUT.... we have spent hours and hours makings this forum more searchable and integrated so that you should be able to find  answers to most questions by using the search bar.

Just to remind you, when you type the title of a new thread it automatically finds and displays matching topics. Great little feature.

Anyway... back to the thread.

Super sports are really good, but if you cannot stretch to them then GY F1v2 are a great tyre

Hi Rich. Wigster isn't it? Ukmkivs?

Anyway, I see your point. But surely we shouldn't be discouraging discussion? It's ok saying the forum and search function works well but if ongoing discussion and therefore content growth is stifled we'd never get any up to date opinion or feedback on mods, parts, upgrades etc.

I just get the feeling some people are being a bit too protective of their creation.

I'll be honest, I do find the attitudes of some of the mods/admin a little cliquey.

And I'm not a newbie to VAG, to Dubs, or to Dub forums either, I'm just a newbie to this particular forum.

I can imagine some people may get put off from joining this 'community'.

There is no clique on here. We (the current admin) didn't create this forum, and we don't get any special privileges. We are just hear to make sure it runs smoothly and retains the core aspects that were set out when it was first created, and to try and improve on its usability so that information is more easily accessible than previously.

Well yes there is some truth behind that, but we are not discussing anything new with a "what tyres" thread, which has above been covered at length to include the latest best tyres available.

When a new tyre comes on the market then I am sure there will be another 10+ page thread/review about them.... and thats what will get people taking and making comparisons and having an actual discussion about them.

There's no clique on here?

That's 3 times on here I've recognised a username from ukmkivs, said hello in relation to that, and 3 times I get nothing back, not even acknowledgement. What's the deal?

The forum is uninviting and I'd argue that yes, there is a clique.

Let's not get bogged down with tyres when you're missing/avoiding the broader point.

Anyway, can't see the point bickering. The forum is what it is.

I haven't been on since I sold the mk4. And not long before that (18-24 months ago?) they migrated to a new system, and I didn't really log on much after that.

Bought a 93 B4 Coupe after the mk4, which I still have, but it's not really a daily, so I picked up the GTI.

My username over on ukmkivs is AJPTDI :-)

Ahh yes that does ring a bell. Can't beat a nicely modified mk4, so many were and still are ruined.   :happy2:

True, they got a little bit too affordable in the end if you know what I mean.

No plans for the same sort of stance with the mk5, I want to be able to drive this thing without resorting to a chassis notch..!

Thing is though, mk5s are getting into the category of being affordable and nowadays see so many GTI wannabes that I feel seems to make our real cars appear to be common

I know, you're right. Plenty of tarted up 140 dervs around.

Although... last weekend I travelled to Wales and back (200+ mile trip) and I saw one GTI and one R32 on the way there, and one GTI on the way back.

That's exclusive enough for me! :-)
