Guys, after watching a old fifth gear episode about Redex, I purchased some for my mk4 Golf GTI. It's the 2.0 version with 90k on the clock. And as most people know it's not the quickest cars. After the redex treatment it has made a massive improvement. Couldn't believe that it cost £2 and it made a big difference.
My question is, has anyone tried it in their mk5 GTI? Didn't want to try it if it could cause any problems. I do about 10-15 miles a day in heavy traffic and thought this might make the same difference to what it did on my mk4
Any advice appreciated

Tried it, made no difference. . .
Bought BG44K and tried that, car ran smoother and all cold start stumbling cured. Permanently :happy2:
Read so many good un-biased reviews on BG44K before trying it myself. Definetly the best of all these injector cleaners

Might give that a go in mine. What's the procedure?

After a google search this BG44K sounds like liquid gold for our engines
Does it really make abig noticeable difference!
Anyone have any feedback on this product :happy2:

I bought my last can from Kwik fit as they had the funnel. It's cheaper on eBay. . .
Stick it in to an empty(ish) petrol tank (using a funnel) and fill up with petrol, drive gently for the majority of the tank then give it a bit of a thrash towards the end of the tank.
I used it with Tesco Momentum rather than V-Power so as not to have too many cleaning chemicals acting at one time :signLOL:
-
Is there a variant of that for diesels?
I used some stuff by forte and it worked quite well. Since then I have done over 30k and want to give it a little refresh.
-
I tried Redex & VWs own brand injector cleaner and didn't notice any difference. The BG44K instantly improve cold starts (most noticeable) and car seemed to run smoother. Cold starts were still spot on when I sold the car 6 months later. .
Internet reviews seem to back this up (obviously there's the occasional "snake oil" review).
Out of all the fuel system / injector cleaning cleaners on the market, I rate this the highest.

BG244 IIRC :happy2:
Get the full size tin, rather than the cheap "shot"
-
I take it that a full size can is 325ml?
-
Thanks GrayMK5GTI :happy2:

Yeah think so mate :happy2:

I bought some BGK44 the other week £20 on Amazon. Have to agree with earlier comments. Car ran much smoother afterwards. Infact, I was wondering if it had an octane booster in it too... My car was flying!
-
I've ordered a bottle and will report back in due course.
-
Yep.. bought some too. Cant hurt i dont suppose, and if it makes my car start better then result!
-
Iv bought one for my 1.4TFSI .. will also report back... £15.99 on eBay if you search :happy2:
-
Just put the can in and topped up with 99RON.... lets see what happens.

Will you let us know how you get on, results etc.

Sure :happy2:

Did you use V-Power? Or just any 99RON petrol? Thanks
I'm going to give it a go when I get back from Holiday.
-
Just tesco Momentum 99. Gonna be doing a long motorway journey on saturday so didnt see the point in opting for the more expensive Vpower (which i use 90% of the time)

Thanks. Will do the same :happy2:

Put a an of BG44K in mine today too. Interesting to see if there's a he difference as the tank goes down
-
Hmmm, Redex is pretty much just an upper cylinder lubricant, so a lot of older engines may feel like they're running a bit smoother when using it. It does what leaded petrol used to do, pretty much.
This BGK stuff sounds interesting though. Might give it a whirl. However, nothing smooths out a TFSI quite like new injectors and a decarbon though!
-
Wish I'd bought shares in BG44 last week
-
I've just finished putting a can of BG44k through my gti, can't say I've noticed that much of a difference, throttle response has maybe slightly sharpened but Id say that was about it.
That was a full tank of BP Ultimate too.

Do you guys just whack the whole 325ml in a tank say a quater full? Just ordered some to :happy2:
-
Are you guys doing an oil change after?
Read somewhere that an oil change was recommended after using this stuff, anyone heard the same?

Your thinking of a oil treatment additive, not this fuel one so don't worry

My tank was about 1/3 full. Stuck the whole can in (spilt some down the side of my car for good measure) and filled up with petrol. :signLOL:

Mine is gonna get an oil change soon anyway
-
Hopefully the can I've ordered will arrive today. I've only did an oil change will millers nanodrive last week so all should be good.

You should probably hold off a while then.... From what i can gather you should change the oil shortly after use
Seems a waste of good oil if you've only just changed?

Confused.com here.
Its not an oil additive, its a fuel additive
-
From BG Products on Facebook when asked if the oil needs dropping.
BG Products, Inc.
No sir. No need as BG 44K goes through the gas tank. Just enjoy miles of fuel system cleaning!
-
Thanks for clearing that up Rich :happy2:
Thought it a bit strange, hench the question
-
Oil changes are suggested as fuel (and additive) can wash down the bores and into the sump - mixing with the oil :happy2:
Only a real problem if you stick additives in regularly. . . .
-
Will be watching this thread regularly as I might be interested to give a try..
-
Popped mine in today and then brimmed the tank.. will report back also!
-
Hmmm. Possibly a waste of 13 quid.
-
Meant to treat 75L and mk6 has a 55l tank + filler neck capacity.
So its already a bit more concentrated than the instructions.. Should be fine I hope Rich fingers x'd!

Any opinions on this?

I used it and didn't notice any difference
-
Put some BG44K in mine a few days ago and so far...it has made a noticeable amount of difference. Much smoother and more responsive.
Plan to put a bottle in every year or so depending on mileage.
Mine has just hit 99k :-)
-
Also put mine in yesterday and have burnt all that off now, can't really feel a different I don't think but end of the day just because you can't feel a differents doesn't mean it hasn't done any good to your engine. I will be buying this maybes once a year to use on all my cars now.
-
Mine feels the same. I don't think it's cured the rough cold start. :sad1:
-
ordered mine from eBay waiting on it to arrive
-
I nearly pulled the trigger on one of these. Think i will wait a bit longer and see what you guys have to say.
-
Guys, just got back from holiday and going to purchase some. Any reports back people who have used this?
-
No difference on my car
-

:sad1: thanks rich :happy2:
-
Perhaps cars that've had a nice diet of decent fuel over the years will see less benefit to those that have been run on crap fuel...?
-
I might try it then. The last owner of my car ran it on 95. No super duper fuels here so i use 98.
