Title: replacement grill
Post by: callis on May 02, 2015, 04:31:10 pm
Well its time to freshen up my front end. My grill is grey errmmmm and a few tabs broken so going to replace it. Now question is,

Where is the best place to get a grill aprt from the expensive dealers?
smooth or standard with number plate holder?

This kit? I was looking for a smooth us grill and found this would be good to get rid of the tired old grey looking plastics too
What's the fit like?

I've not fitted mine yet but StuF on here has and said it would be hard for someone to spot the difference between that and an oem grill regards to fit and quality :happy2:
I've had mine out the box and all looks really good! Can't beat it for that price!

Guys
Thanks for that, will order one in the week.
Looks good on the pics, just a question how are people attaching the number plates?

People usually go for bonded on magnets or suction cups. I'll be going for n35 magnets when I get round to fitting mine  :happy2:

Magnets for me - been good for way over 100mph (on a private runway)

I use both magnets and/or cups. Both are great, cups cause less scratches, ive had both on/off for years.

What's most secure mate?
And any links to suitable magnets or caps? Must have to be pretty strong magnets to stick through bumper. Wouldn't know where to buy magnets!

These are the magnets I used

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00E6PSGEM?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00

Araldited to the rear of the grille and to the back of the plate on felt patches so no scratches

Both as good as each other. I use double sided suction cups on my plastic plate and magnets on my pressed plate. I got both the magnets and suction cups from eBay, can't remember which ones but there are LOADS so just get any that are not too big.

I use 16 N35 magnets (overkill but it NEVER moves)....

Or 8 mini Double sided suction cups....

Love the suction cup idea. Anyone just cable tied the numberplate to the bottom grill?

Forgive me if this has already been asked, but would the Xenonz grill set fit a GT TDi - and if so, can the GTi badge be easily removed?

Looking good - Just fitted a smooth grill to my ED wish I had read this first. My plate is currently in the window (not ideal) been toying with the idea of cups or magnets, this has given me some good tips, Thanks

Cant see why it wouldnt fit a GT TDI and yes the GTI badge comes off easily as it is on clips
