Title: Edition 30 brake upgrade with standard calipers
Post by: lambera on May 04, 2015, 01:19:05 pm
So I have an Ed 30 currently running 320hp, I am looking for a brake upgrade but still using the standard calipers. Something for everyday use with some fast spirited driving, I was thinking of some decent pads and possibly some high temp fluid but I have seen people saying there is no need for uprated fluid. Any help would be great thanks  :happy2:

I'm running 300 bhp and stuck some ferodo ds2500's on mine (fronts only) a month back with bosch discs and have been quite pleased. Same initial bite when cold as oe parts, but when you push them for more (particularly when warm) they bite really well and just get better and better. Can't comment on limits as I haven't been on track with them, however for my spirited driving moments they definitely give an air of more confidence and improved response with no sign of fade. Oh and changed the brake fluid but didn't bother to upgrade to a racing spec.  :drinking:

For the cost of uprated brake line, pads, disks & fluid you could buy a complete R32 / S3 kit. Plus bigger brakes always look better

I'd agree with this. The standard setup will still fade quickly even if you swap to stainless lines, uprated pads etc. And that's just down to size - it can't deal with the heat.

Anyone driving a 300bhp mk5 'purposefully' that hasn't yet managed to cook their brakes and therefore concludes the standard size setup doesn't fade is in for a nasty shock the next time they push things that little bit further.

Although they're heavy, the S3/R32 setup would deal with fade better and like GrayMK5GTI says, they're affordable. And of course it wouldn't hurt to go for some good compound pads, good fluid etc while you're at it to help with pedal feel.

It's all about the pads really.
R32 setup with some good pads is fine for road and gentle track.
Stock 312 setup is shocking once you've actually had some proper brakes.

brembo disks and pads. nice little upgrade and had more comfidence with them before going to my new setup.

Will a normal 312mm Brembo setup be better than factory? I thought the factory stuff was made by Brembo

Genuine parts can be made by many brands: Pagid, TRW, Textar, ATE, etc.
