Post by: Janner_Sy on December 05, 2009, 10:24:12 am

I am REVO and agree that REVO seems to be the dominant SW in the UK for 2.0 TFSIs probably.

For me after an incredible amount of research it came down to a choice of REVO or APR.  I decided to go for which ever company was offering the best deal at the time and managed to get 20% off my REVO remap via a group buy

Needless to say I am delighted with it and I am sure I would have been happy with APR as well.

I bought my ED30 second hand, convinced it is mapped, its whey quicker than my last two cars with simular BHP

(Easily wheels spin in 5th in the wet, although front tyres need replacing) - yes i know if someone told me this i would think "yes of course it does mate"  :stupid:

I obviously need to get it on the rollers to confirm.

My question is....would it be possible to tell from the BHP/Torque figures what re-map it has ?

Apr for me, possible change to REVO or GIAC in the new year (Not untill Ive seen what the cars doing from Logs / RR's with Apr)

Apr use Cruise. Can be retro fitted for around £199....

First they say change the DV, then they say its the valves springs that are weaker on 08+ models, but then once they are proven to be wrong as there are 2007 cars with that fault they just run off.

More people should run GIAC imo.

Why are you considering the change?  Is it because you don't feel you can make the most of your HW mods with the APR map?

Yeah im chuffed to bits the seems alot smoother really surprises me how quick it now is.

Had the before and after runs

Before remap 162Bhp

After remap 191bhp

So not bad for what is meant to be a 140

Not sure how acurate his dyno is though

Nah 140 mate

Also gave a 40.2lbft increase in torque just fighting off the demons at the moment who are trying to convince me to get a Miltek TBE:evilgrin: Not that its going to give any power increase but apparently it makes it feel alot more free reving and look alot nicer.

APR Stage 2+ on Pirelli GTI (supporting mods of downpipe, APR fuel pump and intercooler).
It is vicious if you open the taps, yet perfectly placid when you need to drive Miss Daisy.

Had Bluefin stage 1 before that, and no problems at all with that tune.

If you're that sure its REVO's fault then why don't u change to one of the other maps out there and see if it gives the same prob?
If it doesn't THEN you can have a go at REVO, and stick with that alternative map provider and be happy. I'm sure Regal/GIAC/APR would love to take care of you.

But at the moment your constant moaning about REVO not helping you is getting quite boring IMO!

/Rant over.

who said I blame revo?

Their aftercare is rubbish though.

One would think that it would be in revo's interest to have an idea why a quarter of the stage 2 plus cars I know of have all got this flat spot so we can get it sorted, instead of apparently not caring.
They claimed it was the valve springs on 08 plus cars, but cars from even early 07 have the same issue which thereotically rules that out, and now they are just silent on the issue which isnt helpful.

Plus it isnt much of a case of me boring you, but there will be members who havent got a map, who might be interested to know that they might go on to suffer this same flat spot, instead of it coming as a surprise to them as it did me. I have sung revos praise big time in the past, and now they have got to take the bad with the good.
Title: Re: Who's got what?????

sorry mate but you're making it quite clear that you think REVO are the cause of this "flat spot" and that they're "hiding" something from the public.

sounds like you should be on VWVortex rather than a uk forum really!

just read the thread on SCN and one of the cars with a similar prob has a CC map. Now THAT i say is an interesting bit of info.

Also you sound like you're absolutely minted on the £££ front so no idea why you've still got a Seat when you're thinking of getting an Audi R8!!!

we never hid the fact that there were other maps from other companies with the same flat spot. Its just the fact that first revo biffed us off saying to check the DV when they were fully aware of the 5200rpm flat spot, then after some more discussion they said change the valve springs. Now we have come to stage where we could very well rule out the valve springs being a issue so what next?

Obviously there is a common factor between these odd 10 stage 2 plus revo cars to have all the exact same issue, with cars ranging from 07 to 09 with varying mileage and if I was revo would want to know more about to advise customers. Its just simple good customer care, instead of not replying to emails etc.

Its funny how quickly people on here snipe about APR big time, but then as soon as I make some liberal comments about revo people get their backs up. If you had one of the cars with the flat spot you would want to know more also, so you could go about getting it fixed, and then share it with the other affected cars so they could get theirs sorted also

Im not saying its revos fault, but there is obviously something slightly different to the affected cars to those that arent.

So no im not blaming revo at all, but they could be more helpful  :booty:

So because I can afford something more upmarket I shouldnt be driving a SEAT?  :stupid:

Title: Re: Who's got what?????

it actually bemuses the hell out of me how a potential R8 owner would be driving a Seat at the mo anyway but hey ho life is full of surprises!!!  tis certainly one impressive form of upgrade so go for it if you can I'd say.  :happy2:

Well i think if you've done all the h/w chekcs you can think of that can cause the flat spot, and there's nowt left but the s/w, then logic would say try some different s/w then!

seems logical to me. If its causing u that much of an issue that u need to air it everyday, then rather than getting annoyed over i'd resolve it. eg change cars, change maps, revert it to its previous state when it didn't have a prob, whatever. If something doesn't do what I want it to do to a satisfactory level, I'd simply get something else that hopefully does.

Actually I'm not defending Revo at all. Revo can defend themselves. They've already stated their position - its not S/W related.
Maybe you need to do something along the lines of what JKM did for Illyun, which was to disect his engine checking loads of bits. There's a long old thread on here about it somewhere.

Well the way im going about is that Im going to give it till may to try and sort the car by dropping it off to JKM or APS at some point. If its not sorted by then, I will be 21 at which point I can insure group 20 cars at more reasonable premiums seeing as im a Londoner. The k1 is costing me £3400 as it is, and was only ever meant as a stop gap car, but I have fallen head over heels for it and am struggling to think of what to replace it with that will be suitable for the things I get up to.

Have read Illyun thread and he wasnt too impressed with revo either, BUT, in that instance I could see revos position as that was clearly a hardware fault. But with 10 stage 2 plus cars with all the same issue, it most likely is a hardware fault, but due to the amount of affected cars it is in their interest to try and figure out why its happening to keep customers happy and threads like this off the internet.

RE: Jabbasport.

There is a cupra over on SCN who is using them and their map is very good, just as quick as a revo car stage 1.

you forget tho, Revo are MAPPERS, not h/w technical specialist. That's when you need people like AmD / APS / JKM and their dedicated know how of the 2.0T FSI motor to quickly distinguish which bit of H/W would most like to cause that a misfire.

£3400 a year to insure the K1  :surprised: you done a quote on the R8 then? I thought i was getting ripped off paying £1600 for a brand new STI at 25.  Audi R8 at 21 years of age....fair play is all i can say.

I can appreciate that revo are mappers, but they are selling software that is potentially not compatable with every 2.0TFSI out there. I mean whats the chnaces of all the stage 2 plus cars having a hardware failure? If my car was the only one affected, or there were only 2 or 3 cars with the issue, I wouldnt be expecting any input from revo about it at all. But when its 10+?

R8 at 21 would be 3 grand, same for Evo x fq360. New M3 and lotus exige 2100, TT-RS 1800, K1 will drop to 1200.

Mr poverty. I can understand your frustration with the probs with your car, and would just like to add my observation on this matter.

Revo seem to be brushing you aside because they are confident that its not there software that is causing the problems. It was exactly the same with Illyuns probs. they knew it wasn't there fault so they did not waste to much time trying to investigate  and appease a unfounded angry customer.
I would bet all the tea China that the problem lye's elsewhere, Revo would have done enough of an investigation to make sure its not them then put the subject down.

I have spent a lot of time on Mk 5 forums over the last couple of year's and i dont think i would be exaggerating in saying that there maps are pretty much bullet proof.

I hope when you finally get round to solving your problem that you put up a unreserved apology on the forums

No not as yet, just a few emails from me and wayne.

Will get the valve springs checked on mine, then get a specialist to look at it and go from there to be honest. Will let the specialists communicate with revo if they feel that its necessary, as im no pro on these engines.

Topcat -  I hope I get to the bottom of it sooner rather than later, and I hope it will be a favourable outcome for all. I will be the first to hold up my hands if I was barking up the wrong tree and will profoundly apologise if that was the case  :happy2:

I went with Shark Performance via the recent group buy,
The STS equipment hasn't been delivered yet though,

If i hadn't gone with Shark i would have chosen APR. simply because i had their software on my 1.8T and it was very good.

I've got the giac map,  the stage one map felt really good although the throttle response was a bit on off which I didn't like while town driving, although since upgrading the hardware to 2+ it has become very smooth, great map highly recommend !

Revo stage 1 for me at the moment, installed by PDT, same time as they did the Autotech pump.

Went for Revo map after much reading on this forum. Some of it useful and some way beyond my field of knowledge/interest really (EGT chat for example !!) and also as I have thoughts to going stage 2/2+ eventually.

Gotta say the car feels like I've swapped it for something a lot pokier.
Even the insurance hike gets forgotten when you open the taps. A mapped Ed30 Golf is a fine cure for winter blues..

BTW Sure the technical merits of Exhaust Gas Temps are very important to the technically minded on this forum but it was way beyond me.
