Title: Plastikote on external black plastic trims
Post by: Jonnyboy on May 05, 2015, 11:16:47 pm
Has anyone sprayed the Matt plastic black trims with the gloss black plastikote or any colour plastikote? What prep is involved ie primer, alcohol clean?

Also has anyone tried carbon wrap or stickerbombing the black plastic trims? Does the vinyl stick to the Matt plastic, or would it need to be plastikoted first then vinyl applied?

Thanks

Yeah, I've done the plstikote, just a good wash with fairy liquid and dry with a hair dryer, came out top notch!!! It's nowhere near as picky as regular primer etc

Was that prep enough for a gloss black finish?

I like the idea of this but I think I may not get away with it having a black car. Colours might not match very well. Gtechniq C4 may be my only option.

I used C4 on my Boxster trim. Never again, sent some of it white and some a dark grey. Plastikote all the way!

Anybody sprayed plasticote on textured black plastic, is it able to get rid of the texture? As I want a smooth gloss finish.

Not possible without sanding it down first

No not done it yet. Although someone told me that using a heat gun and gradually heating the plastic surface up will bring the new black look back. So I might try that first and see how it goes.
