Title: Serviced the car myself today
Post by: Stevepd on May 09, 2015, 09:15:55 pm
Great satisfaction seeing as the rain didn't arrive, all the filters changed and it's easy but I was sent the wrong oil filter so having drained the oil and removed the filter bowl it was obvious it wasn't going in, so I refitted the old filter and put fresh oil in. The filter sent had a plastic stalk sticking out of the top and the diameter was bigger than the plastic bowl, so I've contacted the vendor.... When the right one arrives is it feasible to change the filter without draining the oil?

I dont think you can, but you don't really need to change the oil filter every oil change. It does makes sense to as theyre not expensive, but If it was me I'd just leave it till next oil change now.

The oil sits in the sump when the engine isn't running so no issue changing the filter without draining the oil entirely.  You will lost a bit though.  You will have to drain the filter - use the drain nipple on the housing.

Ive had this happen before as said just change it when you get it you'll lose some oil but not loads.
