Hi Guys
Just a quick question about cruise control on a 2007 mk5 gti,
I would like to fit cruise control and have watched a couple of videos on how to do it but slightly confused.
On one video it shows you have to run a wire from behind the Window wipers, I have had a look behind the box and mine looks nothing like the video, It shows loads of connections that you have to tap into but mine just has a control unit in it and one purple plug.
Just wondering what I would have to do to get this function on the car. I have also bought a stork but only a cheap Chinese one think I may have made an error in buying it as look like I should have bought a genuine one ?
My m8 runs a garage so have access to Vagcom etc.
Thanks
Craig

Any Idea's ?
-
2007 doesn't need the cable. I've fitted it to both my 2007 GTIs
Use this guide: http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/roccopedia/index.php?title=Fit_Cruise_Control
You can buy the genuine "rev G" version stalk on eBay for around £38 delivered
-
No cable required as above.
Just swap in the cruise indicator stalk and vagcom.
If you need Cruise stalks I have genuine Version G stalks European stock not China.
Drop me a PM :happy2:
Good luck!
-
Thanks for the reply's,
Seems I can send or read pm's yet would you be able to email me @ cdobbins_2000@hotmail.com with the price of a compatible stalk ?
Thanks

Is a cable needed for a 2005 gti?

Is a cable needed for a 2005 gti?
The last of the 55 plate VWs will have it. Youll need to check pin 13 of the black plug of the steering wheel module controller. if its got a wire in already then you just need a cruise stalk.
@Dobbsy (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=12706) just bought one from me and on its way. Drop me a PM if you need one! :happy2:
Hope that helps.
Good luck!

Mine is a mid 2005 model on a 05 plate. Is there an easy way to check? Where is the control module located?
-
if its an 05 then will definitely will not have the wire.
Credit to source websites for images used.
To check:
Disconnect battery.
Use flathead screwdriver to prise off top of steering column trim.
Unscrew 3x T25 torx screws ( 2 either side of steering wheel and 1x under steering column under the steering adjustment lever)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSI-R32%2Fsteering_wheel%2FCIMG0270.jpg&hash=1963563e7e720420903bfd2c62fe9822a16c3956)
Remove lower steering column trim
You'll see a module attached on the underside looking like this:
Pull the red locking tab away from the plug so it disengages on the black plug.
Press and pull out the black plug.
Look and the pin numbering on the plug and you'll see pin 13 slot is empty.
Id get garage to help if you are not confident at auto electrics. I cant accept responsibility if anything happens etc etc

Normally if you have a roof aerial then you will already have the cruise control wire fitted.
-
Yep no roof aerial, I'll check it anyway but it doesn't look like mine with have the wire which is a shame because cruise control would come in handy on my long trips.
-
Heres some pics i took a few years ago when my wire was missing. Its the top 2nd hole.
Hope it helps

-
Thanks, that does and it's from here that you feed the wire to the steering module?
-
Yep
-
Hi guys
All fitted, but tried it up the road and doesn't seem to work,
Programmed using vag comm but now get the following error

does the green light come up on the dash when cruise is switched to the ON position?
Also did you enable CC in the engine coding using VCDS, and was the wire fitted?
-
Thanks for the reply,
No the light doesn't come on, I have enabled it in vag com , I haven't added any wiring, when I checked behind the window wiper I didn't have any plugs in there to run the wire, have I missed a step on wiring ?
Thanks
-
Some very early 2007 cars don't have the wire as far as I remember - what build month is yours?
Did you code both the Engine as well as tick the box for Cruise Control?
-
Ah right which cable to I need to add ? Or check to see if I have ?
I went into engine and added cruise control on the tick box only,
It's a 57 plate but don't know exact month sorry
Thanks
-
Did you check that your steering wheel control module was compatible for cruise control?
-
Ah no,
Is there a topic I can look at to check ?
Thanks again

-
Thanks for that will have a look in the week see which one I have
-
Being a 57 plate, it'll most likely be a build date of mid-2007 so you should be fine for the wire being present. As said above, make sure you've got the correct steering control module.
-
Hi
Just had a quick look and took a picture of what it has can anyone tell me if its compatable ?
Thanks

-
Yep "AQ" is a Highline module so you should be fine with that
-
Ah right cool, wonder what I've missed and why I have that code error ?
Cheers
-
So you have coded the engine and the steering electrics?
You should have a G visible in the engine component field.
If you post up your coding for your steering electrics and see how you have coded it.
If all the coding is correct then theres small chance the AQ module may not support cruise. Remember a thread ages ago where Eddie-nl said an early highline sometimes supported cruise and sometimes not. Think it was AQ module that was referred to. So maybe try different steering controller.
-
ok thanks,
As soon as I can borrow Vag Com again I will post it up.
Cheers
-
I think it was the BD highline steeringcontroller which sometimes worked and didnt work.
1K0-953-549-BD Type 2 SW 0070 Highline Yes 1.3 #1, #2
Notes:
#1: Depending on the hardware version of this module, it MAY or MAY NOT allow Cruise Control Retrofitting, so replacing the Steering Wheel Control Module may be required.
-
How much are they ? And has anyone got one for sale ?
-

first confirm its the controller thats the issue and post up your coding.
If it is the control module, I have a CH control module you can have for £40 posted.
-
No worries getting Vag Com this weekend off my m8 so will have a good play.
-
Just a update after going into steering wheel controls and adding the function in the its all ok and working now guys.
Thanks for all the help you guys know your stuff, next mod is to get some more power out of it.
What should I start with ? Getting it mapped first ?
Thanks
Craig

Great stuff! Glad you got it working... was beginning to think it might be my cruise stalk haha
