Hi Everyone,
I've been a long time lurker on this great forum, watching the world going by, with the occasional post here and there!
But it occurred to me that I have not formerly introduced myself.
I'm John, or JD for short.
25, going on 26 going 40!
From the dreary hole that is Telford, in Shropshire, West Mids.
IT Analyst by trade, car enthusiast by passion.
I do own one of those dirty dirty soot spewers, a simple 2004 Reflex Silver Mk5 Golf GT TDI.
I do intent to create a build thread in a few days, not with a vast ammount of photo's but a handful. Sadly I have no real mechanical skills, I'm all about the computers ! :signLOL: So a lot of my work has been done by friends or my ever helpful and trusted local mechanic!
Anyway, without further a do, It's nice to be here. Cant wait to get stuck into the community!

I'm quite happy with how it is at the moment, well when my new stuff goes into it!
Beyond that, probably a bigger turbo and better clutch to hold it.
Ultimately I would like to see around 220-240 bhp while having no smoke and being comfortable to drive.
Other than that, I'd like to go down the route of RNS navigation unit and high line clocks.

Ahh fair play! Good to see Telford being represented...despite its flaws!

Still got a soft spot for the dervs. Can't beat that torque.
If you're going BT something like a gtb2260 would be good. They'll make 280+ but will be unstressed and smoke-free at 240.
It's a while since I was up to date on diesel tuners but Darkside Developments were 'the thing' when I had the mk4 PD.

Just been having a fresh look at darkside, their costs are high but they reckon a GTB 2260 would have a max power of 310 bhp..... :driver: That's crazy for a derv!
But yes I do love the torque, I love the GTI, but a derv feels that little bit more raw.
I see it as a GTI is like a sprinter carrying / pushing you along, you get good speed and pace but it's a bit unceremonious, while a derv is like getting kicked in the back by a giant, yeh you don't get as far or as fast but it's that raw ummphh that I enjoy so much.
It's also nice to destroy similar powered cars when going up steep hills ;)
Just my humble opinion, I'm sure GTI owners will see it a different way and that's fine as cars are about how they make you feel not what everyone else sees!!

Dark side do some good things with diesels, mine is running a hybrid cr turbo at 220bhp but still on the OEM clutch with no slip
