Title: small chip in windscreen
Post by: Pesky jones on May 22, 2015, 02:43:20 pm
I was washing the car and noticed a small chip In the windscreen. I remember adverts on tv about autoglass repairing small chips for free. It is literaqlly about 1mm maybe 1.5mm in diameter chip.

They say they do it for free because insurance company pays for it. Does this mean it will come up as a claim on my insurance and my premium will go up?

I think if you speak to your insurance company, you'll probably find that they will repair for free these days. I had a couple done a few years ago but some independent company and they just claimed back through the insurers. Be worth a phone call if it bothers you that much.

I had mine repaired free, excess is only charged for windscreen replacement, either way shouldn't affect insurance but only way to be sure is to check your policy details as they all differ.
I'm with LV who use Autoglass  :happy2:

I insisted on genuine vw when I got a replacement. Did take a little longer to source (excuse to put me off) but got there in the end  No cost, no claim visible, excess was £60  Insurance didn't increase following year :happy2:

I had the same, called insurance company and they said they would have a guy out to my job the next day.

I then told her I had (like most of you) about 50 tiny and I mean tiny little pebble marks. You wouldn't even call them scratches but she insisted that I now get a new windscreen which was completely covered and didn't affect my premium!

This actually suited me and was a blessing in disguise as my windscreen was scratched badly a few months back. Just call them up to make sure and in the meantime try get your hands on one of those stickers you put over the crack to stop it spreading!
