Post by: JENKO on May 29, 2015, 11:46:22 am
had yet another puncture today... 3 in 5 months!
just noticed the different tyre loading, I on 17"'s using 91y rated tyres (goodyear eagle ass 2) are these okay or do I need 94y xl?

 A bit confused??

Tell me about it... Just replaced my p-zero 225-40-18 and 2 weeks later I've another chunk of something stuck in it. Too close to sidewall to repair.

Y is plenty, can stand 300km/hr

xl means extra load so it can be inflated higher. You won't need this.

91Y are ok, lighter than 94y xl, but you should be careful not running into a crater on the road or they will be destroyed.
XL are reinforced tyres which means they have stiffer sidewalls and they will be more resistant to potholes.
The running surface is the same on both 91 or 94, so you have the same chance to get a puncture with either one of them.

For the 17" wheels, the factory spec is 91W.

Its only the 18" wheels that need XL spec.
