So I got vw to cut me a deal cos I know someone there for the timing chain. Got it for 700 and they say it's normally a 1200 job. dropped it off this morning and just now had a phone call saying the water pump could do with replacing which I thought fair enough, and the variable chain tensioner. I thought a variable chain tensioner should be included in the timing chain kit? Anyway they then said another 700 bringing it up to 1400. So I ask for a break down of what the parts cost. 200 for the water pump and 400 foe this tensioner and the extra hundred for labour. I know water pumps for gti is only about 50 quid so rang up a vw specialist and they said it's 60 quid fitted with the timing chain. Then this other part is included with fittin the chain.
What are peoples thoughts on this? I know about dealers ripping us off but this just sounds like someone's told them to get the price up and try and pull one over on me because I'm saving so much of their original price.

If we were doing the job at the garage I work at we would just charge you for the extra parts and say 1/2 hour of labour for the water pump been fitted!

utter rip off, just booked mine in with the local stealers for £349 inc. water pump: https://www.inchcape-volkswagen.co.uk/offers/servicing-offers/cambelt-change/

Just had mine done for 420 Inc waterpump, that's a disgusting price!
Unfortunately I only paid that much as I don't have an inchcape nearby
