Title: Edition 30 RCD Upgrade RNS315 - Northern Ireland
Post by: corrazy on June 04, 2015, 12:20:13 pm
Hi all,

New to the forums and have read literally everything I can about this upgrade.

What I'm after really is a bit of advice. I'm not remotely good with car work to the point that i know I'd destroy something if i tried this myself.

Is there a reputable firm that could provide and install an RNS315 with the upgrade CANBUS for my edition 30 in or around Belfast or is this something a respected aftersales team could complete if I sourced the head unit myself again in Belfast?

Sorry if this has been asked before but I haven't been able to find any mentions of OEM retro fitters in Belfast/Northern Ireland on the site

Alternatively, as I'm not too worried about bluetooth, could I get away with the RNS 310 without the need to upgrade CANBUS and also without DAB for a striaght swap as I've read a number of members have been able to do this?

thanks

I've contacted a local company and will just go with them.

Anyone any thoughts on the RNS310 vs RNS315? I understand that the 310 will work with the highline display but the 315 doesn't. Am i right in thinking that no coding is need on the 310 to work straight out of the box?

Any help at all?

So I've gone ahead and bought an Rns 310, guess I'll update you once it's in so this might help others.

If I need a canbus (absolutely no details of people in Northern Ireland) if the guy from the forums Eddie codes one, it's just straight swap? And where would these be on an edition 30? Have looked everywhere for it following guides that I can find

Hey Corrazy

Let me know how you get on, if you are still needing someone local to fit the radio, givis a shout. It's handy enough done...

I'm not to sure if you need to do the canbus, this question i would have to ask, I can also code this in, if need be  :happy2:

What year is your ED30 ?
Is it dsg or manual ?

 :happy2:

thanks scopes

Its a 2007 manual. I've spoke to a company about fitting but haven't booked anything yet. Just bought the unit.

Where abouts are you based? I'll hopefully be getting it delivered early next week.

Appreciate the reply mate, haven't looked at messing with cars since i was about 18 and know very well I'd soon have it destroyed if i started messing with covers and connections

Matey,  No worries ! Happy to help ...
It help's when you know your way about the car  :scared:

It's not something i do for a living, but have had my own RNS in and out quite a few times now and fitted others.
Patience is the Key !  :happy2:
I live in Carrickfergus, just outside Belfast. Where are you from ?

Thanks mate,

I'm in city centre right beside the fire station on ormeau.

I'd expect I need the canbus coded to allow sat nav but form reading others on the forum, that seems about it really. I'm hoping its as simple as that without needing to spend any more. Managed to get the 310 off ebay for a decent price with gps antenna, nav disc and fraka (sp?) connector for aerial.

Always good getting new car parts!   :driver:

As for the canbus/gateway Eddie-nl on here sells them at a good price and aways a pleasure to deal with...  :happy2:  If a later REVISION one is required.

So your Just round the corner from Nandos,

With a quick search to find out, as far as i'm aware the canbus only needs coding and not upgraded:-

That's happy days!

Yeah that's where I'm at.

Was ready through that thread which is where I found out about the 310 instead of 315. Actually got most of my info from it then just whatever else I could find here or Google and other forums.

Hopefully a quick code to have maps (why in Northern Ireland I don't know but the novelty will be good lol) and it'll be ready to go

Thanks for your help mate

So I've managed to fit the radio myself. Only issue is it seems to have a CD stuck in it. Lesson learnt for buying of eBay  :sad1:

I Watched a YouTube video and just followed it. Seemed straight forward. Hoping I'll be able to get the CD out. In for a service at the end of June so hopefully if I haven't got it by then they can get it
Any chance you would be able to code in the sat nav option this week?

It is striaght forward, it's just knowing where some of the clips are to prevent any breakages !

I've managed to get the CD out now so turns out not such a bad buy after all :)

Works well and integrates with my highline too as I'd hoped after reading other forum entries. Have to say very pleased with it. Be happy to help with advice for anyone else looking to do the same thing now after worrying so much about battery drain. From what i can see so far, no noise coming from it while the car is off that would indicate its drawing power and once I get sat nav coded, will update after that.

Thanks Scopes and Rossimac for your replies

All looks good mate. Car sat all weekend no issues at all. Well apart from CD player not working. Got full refund and told to keep it so gonna hang onto the headunit.

Looking into a 315 or the 510 and canbus now but I'll not be getting it for a while. House buying is putting a major stop to any more purchases lol

That's the RNS-310 neiller.

I didn't need new canbus or any other replacements. Just Sat Nav coded but as my CD player is bust, can't load maps to SD so just left it

You can control SD Card music throguh MFSW and displays on my highline display too

All the guys on here really helpful, I did a good bit of searching both here an google before i bought and from memory i think it was L or higher.

Check on the for sale section here and sometime the traders have the correct ones up or can do a deal with it pre coded also. Definitely Eddie_NL would be a name that comes to mind to speak to for canbus
