When i dropped the sump a couple of weeks ago. I added 5L of oil. This had the oil level on the max maybe a smidge over. Checked the oil today its way over max. Cant even work out where the level is. I extracted about 400ml and its dead on the max again.
How much oil should fill it after dumping the oil??
-
A full dry engine takes just over 5 litres if I recall correctly, so if there's left over oil from a change then about 4.5 litres fills it right up for me usually.

Thanks mate I probably put too much in. I did triple check the oil level though. With what i removed today that leaves 4.6l sounds about right.

Did you change the filter at the same time as the sump? I think that absorbs a few hundred millilitres in the first few miles as well so takes a little while for the true oil level to be found.
-
Mine recently used 4.4l with filter changed too :happy2:
-
What the level on the PolarFIS?
-
I changed the filter as well.
I did not know PolarFIS shows the oil level.
Tried to add it to one of the screens. But i'm getting identifying available parameters.
-
that was a pita. Pulled the polarfis out tried to update it. It shows damaged polar and would not fix. Don't know if its due to not finding the correct lead. Or using vmware on a mac. Put it back in anyway and i was able to change the parameters.
Oil level 67.5???
-
Ok. Mine reads about 60-65.

And this is with oil at the max mark on dip stick??
-
50-75% up the hatched part. Polar fis reads 55-65 depending.

So you don't have it at max? Whats the recommended level?
-
Above min and below max.
-
It was loosing a bit of oil so thought it best to max it out. Will keep an eye on it.

As long as it's not over the maximum mark you'll be fine. I usually top mine up to the maximum mark as well to allow for the oil that gets burnt off anyway. It's when it's over then you start to excessively burn oil and also increase oil pressure which can lead to all sorts of problems.
In theory, if your oil leak is worse when the oil pressure is higher, maybe keeping it under half full is better for your engine until you resolve the leak? Just a thought...
