ive currently got a 1.2 petrol Polo that I use for work but am doing more miles now so want to get a diesel.
The other reason for thr change is that I will get 45ppm instead of 32ppm if I go 1.6 or above so makes financial sense too
I'm leaning towards a fabia vrs but finding it hard to find a decent one that hasn't got a ton of miles on it. Also thought about a mk1 Leon 1.9 tdi
Has anyone got any other recommendations or thoughts about these cars ?
Budget is 4 k
Cheers

I used to have a Golf mk4 GT TDI 130 - great car. Good on fuel and performance.

Thanks man
Yeah I've tried looking for these too and considered them.

One of the best cars I had. It had 180k on the clock but still going strong. Wish I never sold it!
-
I assume the Mk1 Leon 1.9 tdi has the same engine? Struggling to find a decent golf tbh

The MK5 1.9tdi's (105ps) we used to have at my last workplace took some serious pain and kept going and going, and going...
They all did over 140,000 miles and drove like they didn't need anything in return. They move adequately if you give it death and the ones we had did 55mpg driven hard, 70mpg on a run was possible with a steady foot and unloaded car.
You must be able to get one of those for around £4k with reasonable mileage these days? (not checked myself)

MK4 Golf TDI PD150 would be my choice. If your lucky, you can get an Anniversary edition for around £4k

Thanks mate, I'll keep an eye open for a good one but standard mk5s do nothing for me, I'd prefer a clean mk4 to be honest

Very nice cars, had a quick look for them on Auto Trader earlier and they are very rare. My uncle has just bought one in Wales and seems to have got a bargain, perhaps I can persuade him to sell it to me haha

for an 02 plate, what would be people maximum mileage on a diesel they would go for
-
130k as long as it's had a good service history. Mine had 180k - still going strong

These still look very tidy on today's roads, I notice them whenever passing :happy2:
Not many about though.

Look for one that has had the cam replaced as the lobes are pretty soft.

I went for a Fabia VRS SE in the end
Loving it so far

Congrats on the new motor. Always quite liked them myself.

So far so good, enjoy the low end torque a TD offers and much quicker than the 1.2 polo I had haha.
Love the look of it , my only gripe is that the inside is quite basic and would expect a bit more from a VRS SE but it gets me by
Already changed the head unit with bluetooth and fitted LED interior lights and number plate lights , that'd probably as much as I'll do. :happy2:

You keep telling yourself that...it's a slippery slope.

I use a fabia vrs for my work horse. Very easily hit 60+ mpg on the motorway sitting at 70+. If I sit at 65/70, computer hits 70mpg.
Done the exact same as you, interior and number plate bulbs that's it! Oh and various suspension related bits that are oh so common on polo derived dervs!
