Title: PCV and DV
Post by: simmonds87 on June 18, 2015, 04:15:53 pm
Now I've got the GTI back from the Crank Sensor Issue, and I can now go over 4,000 Revs! :driver:

But I've been borrowing my Brothers 1.8 T FSI A3 (Auto), and it seems so much more responsive and the turbo just seems to be more fun. It kind of makes me question if my car was ever at its top performance.....

At first we were joking saying that his must have been 'chipped' but after looking at the status, even after a stage 1 type mapp, his would still be well short of matching a 2.0 VW GTI in terms of BHP and Torque.

Due to the age of my GTI I think im going to change the PCV and DV and see what happens, I've had the car 3 years (2006, AXX) and never had this checked, and its the only GTI i've drove so nothing to compare against.

DV - 06F145710G - £41.99 from VW
PCV - 06F129101L - £38.82 from VW

Now is that the correct part number for the PCV? I did my research on here and that told me I should be asking for 06F129101N, but VW told me that is for cars over 2012, and doesn't work for my model/engine??? So I should be looking at the L or R versions :stupid:

Would anybody be able to confirm the exact version I need for a 2006 AXX engine car? do I need any additional gaskets?

Thanks!

Not sure on the part numbers matey, got the same problem myself at mo so would also like to know. Just done my DV I fitted a rev g really easy job with no additional gasket etc needed just a bit of thread lock. The pcv needs an additional gasket to replace the old one. It's optional but there is also a pipe that you can replace as well.

Thanks - Do you think there would be an issue if i changed the DV first? and see if it makes any difference?

You can check the PCV very quickly and easily - simply remove the flexi pipe from the end of the inlet manifold, blow and then suck. You should not be able to blow down it at all, but should be able to suck through it. Causes rough/poor idling if failed. Another test is to remove the dipstick or oil cap - if the engine note changes and the car wants to stall then it should be ok. there a detailed guide on the forum somewhere

DV needs examining, or just replace it with a G. Symptoms are simply loss of power, no real feel of the turbo kicking in and coming to life

Latest PCV from the dealers, but specify a Rev G for the DV. FYI i have a Rev N PCV on my BWA engine and it does the job fine (it was the newest one available at the time), looks no different to the R, it's just a bit older

Another, easier way to check the PCV is to have the engine running and then very briefly remove the oil filler cap. If the engine tries to stall, it's working OK. If the engine idles fine with the cap off then it's faulty. :happy2:

When I bought my 2008 Gti last year it was preety gutless
Changed the dv and found mine to be torn at 69,000 miles
Like a different car afterwards and made a healthy power output of 211bhp and 240ftlb torque
Not bad for a completely standard Motor
Even a stock Gti should absolutely murder a 1.8 A3 so definately something not right mate

Changed the PCV tonight, it was full of white/creamy thick oil!
What a difference that has made, it's so much smoother, better MPG.

Started to have a go at the DV but it's was a struggle to get the bolts out so gave up. Will try at get it over to a garage in the week.

Haha it might have been the tools I was using! A small rachet (still seemed too big) the bolts were coming out easy enough, but I was more worried I wouldn't be able them back in!

Based around the Oxfordshire area.

It was the R revision that I went for. (AXX Engine).

I replaced the front hose 06F103221E but not the gasket!
