Title: Mk5 gti thermostat housing and coolant sensor
Post by: JohnRJB on June 20, 2015, 07:17:53 pm
Hi all have been having an issue with the running temp of my gti (cooling down on motorways) I'm assuming it's the thermostat or coolant sensor so I'm changing them both tomorrow just wondering if anybody on here has had the pleasure of changing these and is there any issues involved, I've had a good few years experience working in garages so I'm fully capable of the task at hand but still it doesn't hurt to ask if there's anything to look out for that may cause grief.

Fairly easy job but can be fiddly. Remove the engine cover if yours is still fitted or induction pipe if you've got an aftermarket kit.  it's located on the right side of the head above the gearbox.

Remove your battery and battery plastic cover surrounds the ones that clip off and you should have more room.

I found the hose clips were the fiddly bit but I didn't have many tools to hand when I did mine

The above is for the coolant sensor not thermostat - this is the thermostat how too http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Volkswagen_Golf_GTI_Mk_V/31-WATER-Replacing_Your_Thermostat/31-WATER-Replacing_Your_Thermostat.htm
