So today i changed my cam follower, wasnt too bad...

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fnn32%2FAJG09%2FWP_20150628_22_08_26_Pro_zpsrqi5gnwv.jpg&hash=3a1535aba2d565fe7f79d8155b83ade87f203791)

orderd a cat back system should be on by tuesday, then will get a downpipe when and if i decide to go for a remap.

since getting the car ive added the GTI seat inserts, DSG flappy paddle extentions, Bright license plate lights, and the matt chrome headlight and wing mirrior switch. Also got an aux cable/ converter thing on the way.

Gave the car a clean yesterday and its coverd in sap from the trees today so still yet to get any good pics.

Getting the car in for a DSG service soon and need some new tyres as the ones on atm are like plastic skates!

I don't suppose you know how many miles that cam follower had done? Looks barely worn in.
Title: Re: Alex's Tornado Red GTI
Post by: AJG09 on June 29, 2015, 02:06:26 am
I don't know how many miles. The car had no history of it ever being done so I did it anyway so I knew it had been done. The cam had no wear either and the pump was fine so no evidence of it ever wearing through before.

I would imagine someone had changed it before sometime in its life.

Scorpion catback fitted today, they sent the resonated version by mistake so are sending the non res section for free so I can change them to what I prefer... I was disappointed at first but I'm really surprised how loud the resonated version is!!

Now I dunno weather the non res will be too loud!?!?

Anyway the exhaust itself is great, tips fit the back perfectly IMHO and all the wields looked great. Im no metal worker but it looked really well built.

Customer service was awesome as they price matched and sent it out with next day delivery so I could get it fitted while having my bushes sorted. Only down point was that it was the res version. But like I say I'm so surprised its this loud anyway and I'm getting the non res part sent out.

Anyway will get some pics up of it.

Not too much gone on lately. I have it booked in on monday for timing belt and waterpump at vw after the tensioner has started making the chirping sound on first start up in the mornings. Its still under warentee so not too bad.

Oh and i fitted R32/ED30 rear lights

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fnn32%2FAJG09%2FWP_20150817_18_26_33_Pro_zpsasjlrcsr.jpg&hash=8b51779fa0a09b9b1bc2e9f9494815b6ad20279f)

Not the best picture or angle but makes such a difference to the rear IMO

Been busy lately, got the off side rear wheel bearing changed under warrantee yesterday and sounds alot nicer inside now I don't have that horrible rumble.

And today I sprayed my tired old grey grills in a nice satin/matt black and I think I looks alot nicer now

Pics aren't the best but I think it shows the difference...

Looks much fresher with the painted grilles, takes years off it! One more job added to my list then.

Also approve of the eddy/r32 lights.

Good to see nice mods on another Tornado Red, helps me plan mine

Oh and there really isn't much between a GTI and R32. My GTI has a shade under 300lb/ft from 2500rpm (thanks to R-Tech).... makes it really strong and punchy, and honestly - bring on the R32s..... I'd leave them behind.

Cheers mate, I've had a browse at your car, looking good. I'm planning a visit to R tech later this year maybe, did you go stage1? And did you get the dsg remapped (if it is a dsg)

They are an optional extra, I think the r32's have them as standard.. Have a look on ebay etc and olin the for sale section on here. There is normally a pair up for grabs and they look much better as well as lighting the whole road up  :happy2:

Yeah just stage 1. I made sure I replaced the pcv, cam follower and diverter valve a few weeks before I got the remap.

It's a brilliant map, smooth but really strong. It flies now.

I've got a manual box.

Might go for an uprated HPFP and exhaust/decat at some point and head back down to have them tweak the map to stage 1.5 / 2 or whatever it'd be.

But for now I'm more than happy!

Yeah I think he did 2 runs pre map to log etc, then came back and did 2 more with the new map. Was a good few hours at it, and it shows.

No surging, spiking, flat spots etc, and big torque for a k03.

The reputation of R-Tech is justified.

That's bone stock. Just the map.

I think you have to have a set number of posts before your allowed to comment etc. There is a rules or guide thread in the for sale section and that tells you how many posts you need.

Love it!

Don't get caught using that snooper device as that's a prosecution in itself :signLOL:

Oh and don't forget to unplug it from the cigarette lighter as those things play havoc on certain channel frequencies on Satelite TV !!!!!!! Even with the keys out of the ignition.  :happy2:

Its only a detector so its not illegal, the jammers are what gets you nicked. I checked. Although in some countries the detectors are illegal, just not the uk as of yet. And I do say yet  :scared:

Got the rev g dv today ready to go on next week in preparation for my visit to r tech. Also got my ramair induction kit delivered this morning and had a free day so fitted it right away. Nice and easy other than the original hose running to the turbo intake... Couldn't get it off for a good 10 mins then gave it a big yank and it came off with me hitting my head on the bonnet

Anyway looks good and sounds great. Not too loud when taking it easy but nice induction noise and dump when giving it some.

Pics to follow after I've cleaned the engine bay up abit as its got all kinds of muck on it at the moment.

Good ride quality and a nice drop, can get over speed bumps no problem and less body roll  :driver:

Car passed its MOT today  Also dropped the sump to inspect the pickup pipe as its never been done. Pickup pipe wasn't that bad (no pictures) but for the sake of 40 notes, we stuck a new oil pickup on it while the sump was off.

Then a new oil filter and millers nanodrive 5w40 and 2 new tyres and all ready for my trip   :driver:

Was messing about with a temporary lip spoiler untill I find an ed30 one for a price I am willing to pay.

Did this... Opinions please?
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FAJG09%2FMobile_Uploads%2FWP_20151123_16_00_57_Pro_zpsvaggmctc.jpg&hash=6bb91673f12572f8db2ca5f27945c76023bd32b6)

I actually like it and it looks abit better in person. Either way its on now for the meantime but I actually think it looks quite good and quite subtle.

So took the lip off after it started to peel.... looked alright while it was on though and a bit low...
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FAJG09%2FMobile_Uploads%2FWP_20151126_16_00_38_Pro_zpspon7nhxv.jpg&hash=86adff970ba95cab9154ccaf0d43a456cd145f19)
anyway that's gone now so I've decided to get an ed30 lip, most likely a replica off eBay and then colour code the car.

Also want some wheels. Originally wanted the OZ super turismo LM's but I found these and I actually prefer them.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FAJG09%2FMobile_Uploads%2FC__Data_Users_DefApps_AppData_INTERNETEXPLORER_Temp_Saved_Images_gravel_zpsptt9ldfh.jpg&hash=524423ac5cffd1dff2ffe63dd72e6ec99730a8df)
I don't want to rush into it so taking my time as there is no rush so any input is welcomed  :happy2:

And lastely I changed my side light bulbs to some LED ones to look abit fresher and go with the xenons more. Its not the best pic as the reflection on the headlights makes it hard to see the side lights.

Left of the pic is new LED right is old yellow bulb

I want to get some 3mm or 5mm spacers for the rears so Il be selling my 10mm and 12mm hubcentric spacers and wheel bolts as they don't fit on the front with these wheels... Might try the 10mm on the rears but think it will touch the rear arch.

The pics make the car look higher than it is in person too.

And now I've got these fitted i want to get the lowers all colour coded £££ :rolleye:

Cheers

Been doing some little things over the last week or so.

Swapped the standard hazard button for the dark cherry version (ebay) looks abit nicer imo...
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FAJG09%2FMobile_Uploads%2FWP_20160105_11_00_44_Pro_zpsmjdjmplx.jpg&hash=392b52f37001677feaa85d57ce5858047547f5b6)

Also got the matt chrome tipped window switches on to match the headlight switch and the mirror switch I did a while ago. The old window switches had worn through so they were white  did the passenger side too... and yes Ignore the dust
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FAJG09%2FMobile_Uploads%2FWP_20160104_11_27_06_Pro_zpsivi4qysm.jpg&hash=189cc543f1fc51ed593da64652dcccd9c69d02c3)

And got some new car mats for xmas and a GTI foot rest so got them in...
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FAJG09%2FMobile_Uploads%2FWP_20160104_14_31_36_Pro_zpsh2pb6k4m.jpg&hash=47356b65f93952370cfd54fe80929982a3d82adc)

Also got my hands on a black coolant cap and then ordered the wrong size washer bottle cap so I just sprayed my old washer bottle cap black to match
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FAJG09%2FMobile_Uploads%2FWP_20160104_14_20_57_Pro_zpsasjoilui.jpg&hash=627680fa12437b1949fbc47aec15d5fdb26d913d)

And lastly got a gloss black VW badge for the front and topped all the fluids up..
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FAJG09%2FMobile_Uploads%2FWP_20160104_14_35_02_Pro_zpsum0v7tvs.jpg&hash=e83928977c3e1d4eb852317f97a613ab95dab725)

Only thing is now I think the GTI badge stands out a bit too much and I don't want to spray it fully black. So i was thinking of getting the black one with a thin silver outline from online as its only a few quid if I prefer it solid silver

Looking at getting the car detailed soon after ive got the bumpers colour coded so any recommendations nearby (Berkshire) and il give them a look

Haven't posted on this for a while, ordered some brake discs and pads for both the front and back, and braided lines and fluid on the way. Nothing too fancy as cant justify the cost for all the parts and repainting etc for what I use the car for (daily) and I don't track it.

Mtec c hook with anti corrosion coating on them  :happy2: also got EBC yellow stuff pads as they were on offer.

Got some of the uprated sub frame bolts in an attempt to fix a knocking im getting although I've now realised its not the sub frame and its one of my top mounts so that will get done soon... still going to fit them anyway as I have them.

Not much going on other than that. Got some other things I want to do this year like get the intake manifold cleaned after seeing some other members pictures, maybe go stage 2+ if I can find a down pipe hpfp and IC for the right price. But just enjoying it as I want to atm.

Better chuck in a recent pic or two...
