I have the premium sound pack which is quite good, but since I have upgraded from RCD500 to RCD510, the output is too loud. VW have clearly put a MUCH louder amp in the new head unit, so the separate power amp is not needed. It means that I can't put the volume up more than half way.
I want to remove the amp and do without it. Does anyone know if this can be done? I have unplugged it, but then I get no output at all (obvious!). Would I need to rewire the whole audio system to remove it?
Can you get a 'pass though' connector so that the amp can be removed and the connectors put together? I have tried to do this myself with a few wires and it does work, but I don't know which pins are which speakers and there are 20 connections to match! 20x20= a lot of possible permutations.
I have dismantled the amp in the hopes of finding a gain control, but there's nothing, so I had to put it back in :sad1:

Didn't know it could be.
As far as I'm aware, the amp is not available with the 3rd gen head units on new cars.

When you go into the Radio coding there is an option to tell the head unit the type of system your running, like standard speakers, soundpack or Dynaudio.
It's a 30 second job if you have access to VCDS :happy2:

i did this to my rns510 as i have the soundpack and all is fine after :happy2:

Well, Mortygttdi came round with VCDS and we looked at this for ages. The RCD510 will not accept re-coding for any of the sound pack options. No matter what combination we tried, it just gave is an out of range error.
In the end, Darren just turned the loudness option off and it is better, however it's not perfect. We could not come up with any reason why the head unit would not accept re-coding. It worked fine for things like turning on or off the external CD changer option, just nothing to do with speakers :sad1:
I'm now looking at removing the amp again.
All I need is the pin outs on the amp connectors and I can make a 'pass though' adapter.

You have to enable test mode with VCDS, then you hold down the setup button for about 5 seconds until the correct menu appears.

Garth, Have you been able to recode the RCD 510 unit so it knows not to use the dynaudio output feature???
I have just bought the same headunit and I'm pretty sure my 06 GTI hasn't got this option either.

Excuse my stupidity but is the above list options accesible through the unit its self or via VCDS and what do the highlighted options relate too?

They are only accessible via vag com mate. The ones that are highlighted are for if you have the VW soundpack installed. (dynaudio)

So if I dont have the dynoaudio speakers/amp set up I should select the other options on the unit via VAG COM/ VCDS????? Any chance you could point out which ones?

Thanks for the help on this, I really appreciate the assistance.
The unit should hopefully arrive tomorrow but I won’t have chance to fit it for a week or so but this should give me chance to sort out the Can Bus issue and which route I’m going to take for the DAB ariel.
Then I’ll have to get it all coded up somehow. :scared:

Does anyone know if this might have anything to do with the can gateway? I never bothered replacing mine as I'm sure the battery drain issue is an old wives tale! I've had the head unit in for ages now with no problems.
vRStu, how/where do you get the new firmware for an RCD510 (not RNS510)?
Also, I'm looking for a VW premium blutooth kit that integrates with the RCD510. I'm not bothered about any other features, as long as I can get the list of contacts on the head unit and use the phone button on the MFSW. Can you stioll sort me out with this? If so, how much?

We finally managed to code up my RCD510 for the soundpack last night :laugh:
I used the guide for setting up the RNS510 found on www.my-gti.com
All of the bits have to b set correctly, if only 1 is not on the correct setting, the head unit will not accept the code. The confusion came from the options being very slightly different on VCDS to what was shown on the guide, so we chose the similar options and it worked at last!
