Title: Engine Management Light on all of a sudden?
Post by: schmidt_vr6 on June 30, 2015, 10:55:48 am
Hi

I have a Golf GTI. 2 Weeks ago i took the car for the Coil Pack recall at VW. They replaced all the Coils Free Of Charge.

1st Question; The coil packs the dealers have put in, Have no Part Numbers on the top? Are they supposed too?, They look like cheap after market part?

Anyway the car has been fine, Yesterday I started the car up and after a little drive, The EML appeared. The car stills pulls and engine is good.

I'm going to put it on Vagcom later. But wanted to know if its Coil pack related and if the Genuine Coil packs have VW Stamped on them?

Regards

Sorry to interrupt your thread but how did you know about the recall? Does it cover all GTIs?

I rang the VW Dealers and gave them my reg. They told me it hadn't been for the recall, So I booked it in.

Right back to the problem  :indifferent:

I Ran Vagcom yesterday. It bought up the following errors. (5 In Total)

P2279 - Leak in Air Intake System. ( I Know the air box is cracked, Could this be the issue)

P0299 - Boost Pressure Regulation

P0507 - Idle Control System RPM

P0100 - Mass Air Flow Sensor

P0441 - EVAP Emission Control Sys

I Deleted the Errors, and started the car. Light did not go off. So tried Vagcom twice again. This time the errors had gone. But EML Does not go off.

The car drives fine, Boost well and i mean i drove the car from London into Yorkshire. It was fine. After it went to VW for the coil pack recall, I've done 18 Miles and the EML Light has come on?

If someone could explain what the above error codes mean or where to look for the fault, That would be appreciated.

Thanks Guys  :happy2:

Edit;

Also when I bought the car, The revs would hunt on idle. So I changed the PCV and now it idles smooth.

P2279 - If you're referring to plastic box at the front of the bay then no. That won't throw up an error, a torn hose somewhere causing a pressure differential will. Get poking around!

P0299 - First guess would be your diverter valve is split. See my build thread for a how to - http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,89715.msg907250.html#msg907250

P0507 - I would say it's connected to P2279 above. A problem with air somewhere, possible a leaking hose.

P0100 - Your MAF sensor needs to be taken out and cleaned or replaced.

P0441 - Very common issue, connected with brimming the tank with fuel and fixing it requires replacing the carbon canister up front. Some choose to do it but it can come back. I personally would clear that code and not worry about it.

You should use rosstech website to find exactly what the causes are, I was just going off the top of my head!

Cheers dude, Nice MK5 by the way.

My car does make a whistle sound so i'm certain its the DV. Also would a shot DV bring up the EML?

I'm going to say yes maybe. Sorry I can't give a solid answer. The light has come up due to one or more of the codes you've listed anyway. Don't worry about it, none of your issues look serious!

Once changing the Dv change the PCV if the problem continues a friend had his fire up and upon making these changes the light no longer appeared.
