Title: Recommendation induction kits?
Post by: fairladyx on July 06, 2015, 12:21:09 am
Hi everyone, Recently bought a golf gti mk5 and looking to replace standard air filter for a induction kit, been looking at the Volkswagen Racing Intake System and Forge Twintake Induction System.
what are everyones views on them?
thanks in advance

I have the Forge Twintake and Twincooler setup, was on the car when purchased. Setup maintains temps around 15C under WOT so not bad. However the twintake is a pretty loud and fluttery intake, there's far quieter ones out there and I've heard the flow's restrictive for k04 cars?

I like how loud the Forge is, can sound like a dump valve at times, i've had comments from people outside the car! But it can drown out the exhaust from inside the cabin :(

RamAir induction kits are about half the price of the others and just as good for stage 1+ or stage 2. I've been running one for a while now, great sound and performance. Be warned, you loose a fair bit of torque in the lower RPM range.

Have the oversized one myself with 90mm pipe work. Nice intake and gained in the region of 19bhp (dyno'd at 216bhp) before mapping

I've had Twintake and Revo, the Revo is noticeably more responsive and sounds

I thought intakes lost power on these?

From what I gather, torque is lost at low revs, but gained at high revs. Still undecided myself on whether to keep the stock intake because of this.

Got it for £180.

The intake loses a bit of torque low down but I felt that it pulled better higher up the Rev range.

Can you use the k04 kit on the k03 if you want bigger pipe work?

is that the 70mm or 90mm versions?

Why do we lose so much low end torque? I mean what's the science behind it?
And do we get it backed when mapping?! :P

The k04 doesn't use bigger pipe work. The 70mm kit fits both k03 and k04 and the 90mm kit fits both k03 and k04.
They come with a blanking plug that you fit if you are fitting it to a k03 car.

I think the k03 & k04 both have a 70mm pipes coming off the turbo.

It changes to 90mm after the maf on the ITG k04 filters.

IIRC I (think) Olly (TFSI BUS) has a 70mm intake and he is running 370bhp so I wouldnt lose any sleep over it

I've never heard of those options, I have the cam coated Revo. Never heard of race and high flow options

ITG Maxogen, Revo or Evoms I'd recommend. :happy2:

cam coated Revo is it better ?

is it worth the extra money
what is the actual bhp that people have from this revo intake as to a panel filter
thanks for info and reply

The cam coated one does keep intake temps down by a few degrees but isn't really a noticeable difference to drive just nice to have it, so if you're on a budget then no it's not worth it.

How many BHP you get depends on the rest of your setup, of its just a remap and panel filter vs intake then maybe 5bhp, however of you're going for 320bhp+ then you start to need one as the OEM system will struggle to keep up and restrict your power.

I just like the way that it keeps pulling higher in the rev range than with the OEM filter, however you sacrifice a few torques low down but I still have plenty so I'm fine with it.

I think as I'm only ever going stage 1 the stock system will be fine

I have a ram air induction kit and it sounds awesome through the gears and does sound like a dump valve when you take your foot off the throttle.
